The outfit included a black bomber jacket with a large white ribbon adorning the back. Underneath, she wore a black tennis dress with a smaller white bow around her waist and a tiered ruffle skirt. Small bows were also on the backs of her shoes.
In an interview with The New York Times, Osaka revealed that Japanese culture inspired the bow and ruffle details. “I remember one of the first times I went to Japan, I saw so many frills and so many bows,” she said.
Aside from Japanese culture, ballet inspired Osaka’s look. Osaka told The New York Times that her movement coach is a ballerina and that she helped her gain newfound respect for ballerinas.
She used to think ballerinas were “just flexible,” but Osaka realized they were strong after meeting her coach.

Yoon Ahn is the co-founder of the Tokyo label Ambush, founded in 2008, and she has been working with Nike since 2018. On Tuesday, August 27, she released an eight-piece collection of vintage tennis-inspired clothing for Nike Women.
