In her memoir, Lisa reveals how she once found herself writing a poem with the line, “I hope my daddy doesn’t die.” Unfortunately, against the better wishes of her and millions of Elvis Presley’s fans all over the world, the icon did die, and the world had to make do with the legacy he left behind.
Sadly, Lisa picked up on his habit of substance abuse, and for years after his demise, she also went down that road.
Lisa Marie Presley Had a Rebellious Phase That Ended With Motherhood

She may have ended up like her father if she had never met and married her first husband, Danny Keough, and given birth to Riley at 21. “I fell in love with being a mom. I realized I had been called to care for something else,” Lisa Marie writes in the book.
Sadly, her marriage to Danny ended in 1994, but according to the memoir, they remained cordial friends, and he served as an anchor for her and their children.
“My father was always my mom’s greatest protector and best friend,” Riley told PEOPLE in an email interview. “I think their relationship was incredibly unique, and I’m so grateful to have been a witness to the unconditional love they had for one another.”

Reports claim Lisa Marie Presley died from a small bowel obstruction. The obstruction was caused by complications from a bariatric surgery she had several years prior.
She died on January 12, 2023, in Los Angeles, California, after experiencing cardiac arrest at her home and was transported to the hospital, where she later died.
