Hoda Kotb is leaving the “Today” show early next year, telling those who have worked with her for the past couple of decades, “It’s time.”

Hoda Kotb revealed why she has decided to leave the “Today” show via a memo to her team and an emotional on-air reveal on Thursday. According to the famous host, her 60th birthday, which she celebrated this summer, helped her decide.
She said, “I saw it all so clearly: my broadcast career has been beyond meaningful, a new decade of my life lies ahead, and now my daughters and my mom need and deserve a bigger slice of my time pie.”

Kotb has been a co-anchor for the first two hours of “Today” alongside Savannah Guthrie since 2018. Her stint on the show started after she filled in for Matt Lauer when he was fired amid sexual harassment allegations.
She was retained and continued to co-host the fourth hour of the morning show with Jenna Bush Hager, having previously hosted it alongside Kathie Lee Gifford.
Kotb first joined NBC News as a correspondent for “Dateline” in 1998. According to reports, she did not join “Today” until 2007.

The memo also revealed that Kotb plans to remain a part of the NBC family. “I’ll be around,” she wrote. “How could I not? Family is family, and you all will always be a part of mine.”

While many are excited for Kotb, they have pointed out that her exit is a huge loss for the show. Her exit will leave two-morning slots open for NBC as it continues to struggle to regain the top morning show slot from ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
