John Stamos could have been a member of the church of Scientology, but they refused him because he was “messing around” too much on his first day with them.
The “Full House” actor recalled his run-in with the church after a “hot girl” invited him to one of their gatherings in a past interview with Variety. Stamos was a teenager when it happened, but the story is still fresh memory for him.
Why Did the Church of Scientology Kick John Stamos Out?
According to John Stamos, 61, the Church of Scientology refused to have him as a member because he was “messing around.” Stamos said a girl in his acting class unknowingly invited him to the organization’s Hollywood location. As far as he could see, she was “hot,” so he thought, why not?

“She said, ‘You know, we’re all meeting at this address on Hollywood Boulevard. Come after [class],’” he recalled. At the time, the actor was working at his dad’s restaurant, but that did not stop him from honoring the girl’s invitation. Imagine his surprise when he arrived at the location and found out it was the Scientology building!
John Stamos was only 16 or 17 years old then, and when he walked in, he let his curiosity take control. He started messing with the E-meter, a device Scientologists believe measures a person’s level of spirituality.
He recalled, “They had this E-meter, and I’m holding these two cans, so I started [saying], you know, ‘Hello… Peabody in the Wayback Machine, you know, Sherman and Peabody.” The church members did not like that, and eventually, when they could not take his messing around, they said, “Get out. Get. Go.”
In his memoir, “If You Would Have Told Me,” Stamos also mentioned the experience. He wrote, “I am whisked out of the room and sent on my merry way. Apparently, I’m not Scientology material. Darn it.”
