The final episode from “In The Arena: Serena Williams” contained old footage that captured the reaction of Serena Williams’ daughter Olympia when she found out she was going to be a “big sister.”
In the footage, the retired tennis pro, 42, and her partner Alexis Ohanian, 41, are perched on the couch with their daughter Olympia, 6, when Williams lifts her bright blue T-shirt and rubs her baby bump while Ohanian exclaims, “You’re going to be a big sister!”
How Olympia Reacted to News of an Incoming Sibling
Serena Williams’ daughter Olympia, then five years old, could not contain her excitement after hearing the news and immediately started jumping up and screaming. She then races around the room as her parents laugh. The clip ends with a never-before-seen photo of the family of four, with Olympia and her younger sister, Adira, posing with their parents.
Serena Williams’ daughter number two, Adira, turned one in early August, and the proud mother of two commemorated the day by expressing her love for both of her girls on Instagram.
Meet Olympia’s Sibling Adira
Serena Williams’s daughter and second child, Adira, was born on August 15, 2023. Adira is a girl’s name reportedly of Hebrew origin. According to Williams, it means “mighty,” “strong,” and “majestic.”
The proud mom has also revealed that the elegant name is prevalent in many cultures around the world. Williams wrote on Instagram: “Adira is the feminine form of the classic name Adir. It is a Biblical name, meaning ‘Strong One.’”
She has been growing by leaps and bounds, and according to her father in May, she is now getting her footing and can keep up more with her sister.
The pair have a wide age gap but already share a closeness their parents can see. Ohanian has shared that Olympia is an earnest big sister with a lot of maternal spirit, which makes her treat Adira like her little baby.
Serena Williams on Welcoming Her Second Child
To celebrate her first birthday this year, the proud mother took to Instagram with a few throwback snaps of herself with Olympia from her maternity shoot before Adira arrived. In the pictures, the mother-daughter duo were all smiles as they matched in pink flowing dresses.
“Olympia is always there for me,” Williams wrote in her caption. “Before having a second child, I always wondered, ‘How could I love anything as much as I love @olympiaohanian?’ Then Adira came along.”
Williams described Adira as “special,” “fun,” “funny,” “loving,” “sweet and so strong!!!” She is convinced that God made her heart bigger because her love for Olympia did not diminish with the arrival of Adira.
“My heart simply now is doubled the size, and I have a greater capacity to love more!” She wrote.
Is Serena Williams’ Husband American?
Yes, Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, is American. He was born in Brooklyn in 1983 to a German mother and a father whose parents had to run for their lives during the Armenian genocide. His parent’s trials and background had a huge impact on how he grew up and helped shape his drive.
“I have a bit of a crush on the Statue of Liberty…I look at that every day and keep in perspective—coming from a family of immigrants—everything they went through to give me the good fortune I’ve had,” he once confessed.

He and the retired Tennis Pro tied the knot on November 16, 2017, and have been happily married ever since.
