Christopher Reeve’s wife was a life-saver. A soon-to-be-released documentary of the late actor’s life revealed that. According to clips of the film, in the months following a devastating accident that left him paralyzed, he lost the strength to continue with life. Dying was at the top of his mind at those moments until a few powerful words from his wife changed everything.
At those dark moments when he came to terms with his new situation, the most appealing option was to end it all. In the documentary, Reeve spoke about the reasons behind his decision to cut his life short.
In those trying times, he recalled thinking, “‘I ruined my life and everybody else’s. I won’t be able to ski, sail, or throw a ball to Will. Won’t be able to make love to Dana. Maybe we should let me go.” Let’s take a trip down memory lane to examine Reeve’s life-altering accident. Let’s also see how Christopher Reeve’s wife helped him fight to the finish line.

Reeve’s Life-Changing Accident
Christopher Reeve began his struggles with suicide after a devastating accident changed the course of his life on May 27, 1995. Before that, Christopher Reeve had achieved fame and fortune as one of the hottest actors at the time. His performance as Man of Steel in 1978’s “Superman,” one of the most accepted movie projects, shot him to global acclaim.
The Hollywood veteran was the darling of the industry and had a highly promising future ahead of him. But things changed very fast. During his participation in an equestrian competition in Virginia, his horse couldn’t make a 3-foot-high rail jump.
Consequently, Reeve crashed head-first into a rail fence ahead of him. To worsen matters, he then landed on the ground on his forehead. When an organizer of the horse trials got to Reeve, he looked “unconscious.” He reportedly looked “like he was gone.”
“He was not moving; he was not breathing,” the organizer later told journalists. Doctors said Christopher Reeves suffered multiple fractures of his spinal column and, as a result, ended up paralyzed.
However, his family members remained hopeful. Christopher Reeve’s wife, Dana Morosini, his sons, Matthew and Will, and his daughter, Alexandra, began to pray for a miracle. Their son Will, who is the youngest child, was just two at the time.
The Seven Words Christopher Reeve’s Wife Said That Saved His Life
In the end, Reeve was confined to a wheelchair and became a shadow of the jovial and full-of-life version that he used to be. But beyond the limitations in his body, Christopher Reeve lost the will to live. His situation proved too overwhelming that he reasoned that death was more bearable.
But Christopher Reeve’s wife stuck with him to the end. According to Reeve, after he lamented about how he had ruined his life and that of those around him, his wife uttered some words that gave him the courage to push through. She said, “You’re still you. And I love you.” Unfortunately, Christopher Reeve passed on in 2004 at the age of 52.

Where Is Christopher Reeve’s Wife Now?
Unfortunately, Christopher Reeve’s wife lost her life to cancer just two years after the actor died. While most people only remember Reeve, the “Superman” star, Dana is equally as heroic as her husband.
