Vivienne Jolie-Pitt is one apple that did not fall far from the tree.
Like her divorced parents, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Vivienne has developed a love for theater and has already started building a portfolio. The 16-year-old, born alongside her twin brother Knox in July 2008 in Nice, France, is the youngest of the six kids Angelina Jolie is raising.
Parenting such a large brood can be challenging, but the actress has had a long time to learn. She now knows that all her kids are individuals and is very excited about their unique feelings and curiosities.
“Why wouldn’t you be?” Jolie told PEOPLE in October 2021. “We’re supposed to help them figure out who they are. And you can’t figure out who they are if you don’t enthusiastically develop with them.”
In May 2024, Vivienne was credited as “Vivienne Jolie” in the Playbill for “The Outsiders” on Broadway, a project she helped her mom produce, seemingly having dropped Pitt’s last name. Below are a few more things you should know about Vivienne Jolie-Pitt.

Vivienne Jolie-Pitt Reminds Angelina Jolie of Her Mother
Vivienne Jolie-Pitt was named after her mother’s deceased mother, Marcheline Bertrand. She passed away from cancer just over a year before Vivienne was born. Her daughter, Jolie, chose to honor her by giving Vivienne her middle name, and the girl had lived up to her name. In August 2023, Jolie revealed how her youngest child made her think of her mother.
“Viv reminds me of my mother in that she isn’t focused on being the center of attention but in being a support to other creatives,” Jolie said. “She’s very thoughtful and serious about theatre and working hard to best understand how to contribute.”
She and Angelina Jolie Share Matching Tattoos
Vivienne and her mother are mother-daughter goals in many ways. For example, they have matching tattoos, a fact the “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” actress revealed in an interview with CR Fashion Book in September 2024.
According to the actress, she and Vivienne got the matching tattoos to honor the time they spent together working on “The Outsiders.” “It means so much to us separately and together,” the actress said, sharing that their ink reads “Stay Gold” after one of the play’s original songs.
Jolie announced she was producing a Broadway adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s novel and Francis Ford Coppola’s 1983 film “The Outsiders” in August 2023. Unsurprisingly, she got the idea for the adaptation after Vivienne inspired her to see the musical.
“She saw an early workshop a few times and then invited me to it,” the actress said during the April 2024 opening night. Vivienne was a volunteer assistant to her mom and developed great passion for the project. It was also a great learning experience for her as she got to interact with the creative team. “The Outsiders” won four Tony Awards, including for best musical.
Vivienne Jolie-Pitt Is Their Family’s Biggest “Theater-Head”
Bringing on Vivienne to assist her in the production of “The Outsiders” was not a difficult choice for Angelina Jolie to make because she knew her daughter was a big fan of theater. During the red carpet for the opening night of “The Outsiders,” the stunning actress called her daughter the family’s biggest “theater head.”
“Viv. Definitely Viv,” she told PEOPLE, while “The Outsiders” book and score creator Justin Levine nodded and added, “Definitely Viv.” Vivienne also took the job “very, very seriously,” with Jolie tagging her as a “tough assistant.”
“She’ll correct me,” the talented actress said. “She’ll say, ‘Didn’t you read the memo? We have to do this. We have to go through this.’ “
Why Was Vivienne Jolie-Pitt in Maleficent?
Vivienne Jolie-Pitt appeared in her mother’s movie “Maleficent” as the younger version of Elle Fanning’s Aurora. According to her mother, Vivienne, just a toddler at the time of shooting, was the only available option because other kids were too scared to film with her as the menacing character.
“We think it’s fun for our kids to have cameos and join us on set but not to be actors. That’s not our goal, for Brad and I, at all,” Jolie said at the time. “But the other three- and four-year-old [performers] wouldn’t come near me. It had to be a child that liked me and wasn’t afraid of my horns and my eyes and my claws. So it had to be Viv.”
Reflecting on the experience later during a Disney roundtable, Jolie said the then-toddler did well in rehearsals. “When we did it together, we had a good time. I was actually shocked that she was doing so well she went back and hit her mark! It’s frightening,” Jolie said.
