What Happened Between Nicholas Godejohn and Gypsy Rose Blanchard
Nicholas Godejohn and Gypsy Rose Blanchard made plans to murder Gypsy’s mother, Dee Dee, who mentally and physically abused Gypsy throughout her entire life. Gypsy was reportedly a victim of Munchausen by proxy.

This means she was put in a wheelchair even though she was able to walk, was forced to take medications she didn’t need, and had her head shaved to convince their friends, family, and community that she was suffering from muscular dystrophy, leukemia, and other ailments.
Dee Dee’s mistreatment of Gypsy may have continued indefinitely if Godejohn had not entered the picture. He murdered Dee Dee at Gypsy’s behest in 2015, and they were both convicted and sentenced for the parts they played in the crime.
Is There Anything Between Gypsy Rose and Nicholas Godejohn Now?
Nicholas Godejohn may have called Gypsy Rose Blanchard his “soulmate” in a 2019 Oxygen TV documentary about the killing. But he now knows she is far from that. According to Godejohn, he was very much in love with Gypsy when he killed Dee Dee for her.
The pair initially met on a dating site for Christian singles. They texted back and forth online for two years before eventually meeting in person. Text messages shared in court in 2018 proved that Godejohn was convinced he was with a woman he loved. They talked extensively about starting a new life together, including getting married and starting a family.
Gypsy testified at his trial that she suggested they kill her mother and that she convinced Godejohn to do it. He did it because he loved her. However, his lawyers argued that he was manipulated during his trial.
They claimed that he had “diminished capacity” because of his autism spectrum disorder diagnosis and his low IQ. Both are factors that made it easy for Gypsy to manipulate him. “She learned the art of manipulation from her mother, and that’s part and parcel of who she is,” Nicholas Godejohn’s lawyer, Andrew Mead, said.
It’s been years since he was sentenced, but Godejohn now knows that Gypsy is not his soulmate. After all, while he languishes in prison, she is out and has moved on with her life.
“I’m sure that we both have a lot of regrets,” she said during her first TV interview post-release. “All I can really say is that I did my time. He’s doing his time for his part. And I wish him well on his journey.”

Nicholas Godejohn was sentenced to life in prison. He is serving his time at the Potosi Correctional Center, which is located in Washington County, Missouri. In August 2022, he asked for a new trial on the grounds of having ineffective counsel but was denied.
