Hip Hop legend Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs isn’t getting out of jail just yet. This is the decision of a New York federal judge on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. This will make it the second time the rapper and music entrepreneur will lose his bid to secure freedom since his arrest.
Diddy had asked the court to grant him bail before his pretrial commences. Interestingly, a judge declined a previous request on Tuesday. The two rejections came even after his lawyers described his jail conditions as “horrific.” This ruling means that the 54-year-old celebrity will remain in detention before his case comes up in court.
Through his attorneys, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs tried to convince the courts with a bail package of a $50 million bond. The proposal also included house arrest, surrendering his passport, and weekly drug tests.
In addition, the proposal, which would have been signed by Diddy himself, his mother, and some other family members, will mandate that his visitor logs be submitted to authorities every night. However, Judge Andrew Carter wasn’t moved and dismissed the appeal.
The judge had other aspects of the proposed bail to worry about. “My bigger concern deals with the danger of obstruction of justice and the danger of witness tampering. That is a real concern that I have here,” the judge disclosed.

What Happened to P Diddy?
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been in a fight with the law after his arrest on Monday, August 16 in Manhattan, New York. His arrest came after raids on two of his houses in Los Angeles and Miami in March. He has been under investigation by multiple law enforcement who have reason to believe that he has been involved with sex trafficking.
What sparked the decision to arrest him was largely an indictment from the Southern District of New York (SDNY). The indictment revealed that prosecutors have found the multiple award-winning rapper in organized crime.
They believe that Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a major player in a criminal organization that has engaged in sex trafficking, kidnapping, forced labor, bribery, obstruction of justice, and arson. The cases are linked to sexual abuse allegations that have been active since 2009.
According to U.S. Attorney Damian Williams of the SDNY, the case involved quite a number of victims. He also took the opportunity to invite other possible victims to come forward with their testimonies.
“The indictment alleges that between at least 2008 and the present, Combs abused, threatened, and coerced victims to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct,” the attorney disclosed in a press conference on Tuesday.
“As alleged in the indictment… Sean led and participated in a racketeering conspiracy that used the business empire he controlled to carry out the criminal activity.” The indictment, which covered 14 pages, charged Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, also known as P Diddy, with racketeering, sex trafficking by force, and transportation to engage in prostitution.
When US Magistrate Judge Robyn Tarnofsky confronted the rapper with these charges on Tuesday, September 17, he pleaded “not guilty.” If found guilty, Diddy faces decades in jail. Given Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs age, that’s close to life imprisonment.
