Prince Harry and Prince William attended their uncle Lord Robert Fellowes’ memorial service. However, their presence only highlighted how deep their rift has become. Harry, 39, traveled to the U.K. for the event, and the Prince of Wales, 42, was also there.
The event at St. Mary’s Church in Norfolk honored Fellowes, the brother-in-law of the prince’s late mother, Princess Diana. Fellowes died on July 29; however, the cause of his death has not been disclosed. He was 82.
Prince Harry and Prince William’s Behaviour at Fellowes’ Funeral
According to a source at the event, Prince Harry and Prince William arrived “discreetly.” Not many even knew they were present until after the memorial service.
“William and Harry were both there, but we never saw them speak to each other, and they were keeping their distance,” another attendee said. The pair reportedly sat in the back but did not sit near one another.
This marks the first time the brothers have been seen in public at the same place. The last time it happened was May 2023 at their father, King Charles’ coronation. Unfortunately, the brothers reportedly did not interact with one another there either.
Most recently, Prince Harry and King Charles allegedly had a positive meeting in February following King Charles’ cancer diagnosis. Royal fans hoped it was a step toward fixing the rift between the royal family and Harry.
However, communication between them has since deteriorated. Harry’s close friends have also confirmed that King Charles had not returned or taken his calls. He continues to reach out, hoping his father can help him protect his family, as he has concerns over their safety.
Prince Harry Did Not Plan To Attend the Event
According to a previous report from PEOPLE, the Duke of Sussex had no plans to attend his uncle’s funeral due to security issues in the U.K.
Prince Harry, 39, moved to California with Meghan Markle in 2020 following their decision to retire from their roles as senior working royals. Since then, they have only visited the U.K. a handful of times, partially because he lost his right to automatic security in the country.
As it stands, Harry is required to inform authorities about any travel plans to the U.K. 28 days in advance. The proud family man has been battling to restore his right to automatic security in court but lost his bid earlier this year and is planning to appeal.
He is convinced that his father can do something about it, hence his constant attempts to reach out. Unfortunately, the King has not been accommodating, but Harry is also very determined.
Prince Harry and Prince William May Meet Again Soon
Prince Harry plans to travel to New York City this month, and many people noticed that his time in the Big Apple could overlap with that of his brother, Prince William.
The trip will coincide with UN General Assembly High-level Week, which takes place from September 22 to September 29, and Climate Week, which spans September 23 to September 27.
The announcement left people speculating if Prince Harry would be in the city at the same time as Prince William, as the Prince of Wales’ Earthshot Prize environmental contest and Bloomberg Philanthropies will co-host the third annual Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit on September 24 in N.Y.C.
While Prince William, 42, traveled to New York for the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit in 2023, he will not attend this year’s event.
The Rift Between Prince Harry and Prince William
According to sources, Harry has been trying to fix things between himself and his older brother via texts, calls, and messages, but his efforts have been completely ignored.
One royal insider said that the rift between Prince Harry and Prince William is “very bad,” but they also believe that not all hope is lost. Reports claim issues between them began in 2016 after William expressed concerns about how rapidly Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship was moving.

Then, in 2020, Harry and Meghan announced they had stepped back from their royal roles, further damaging things between the brothers.
What Is the Age Difference Between Prince William and Harry?
Prince William was born on June 21, 1982, at St Mary’s Hospital in London. That makes him two years older than his brother Harry, who was born in 1984. Many hope they can put behind their past differences and move on, but given how they avoided each other at the funeral, that may not happen anytime soon.
