On Sunday, August 11, Miley Cyrus, 31, joined several other Hollywood stars to be named a Disney Legend. The recognition is reserved for individuals who have significantly influenced the company, and Cyrus is the youngest to win it.
It is no mean feat, and the award is well deserved by Cyrus, who brought smiles to many faces as Hannah Montana in her years as a child star. The talented singer revealed during the event that she wrote two acceptance speeches but only one got read.
Miley Cyrus’s Performance As Hannah Montana Earns Her Disney’s Greatest Honor
During her acceptance speech at the D23 event in Anaheim, California, Cyrus got emotional. According to her, the first of the two acceptance speeches she wrote was “long, [for] the badass I’m supposed to be,” while the other was “short,” for if she got scared.
The talented artist also recalled the beginnings of Hannah Montana in 2005, joking that she “definitely wasn’t created in a lab” as a “Disney kid” before running through the behind-the-scenes process of the “Hannah Montana” show.

Cyrus said, “A little bit of everything has changed… but at the same time, nothing has changed at all. I stand here still proud to have been Hannah Montana.”
She dedicated the award to “Hannah and all of her amazing loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality.” Then, she quoted the legend by saying, “This is the life.”
Other Stars That Became Disney Legends
Bob Iger, the Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, showered Cyrus and other stars who won the award with praises ahead of the event in a press release. Iger confirmed that the Disney Legend title is the highest honor the company can bestow on a person.
In addition to Miley Cyrus, other stars honored at the event include Angela Bassett, Colleen Atwood, Martha Blanding, James L. Brooks, James Cameron, Jamie Lee Curtis, Steve Ditko, Harrison Ford, Mark Henn, Frank Oz, Kelly Ripa, Joe Rohde, and John Williams.
Cyrus made her debut as Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel show with the same name in 2006. The show ran for four seasons until 2011 and followed Miley Stewart (Cyrus), a typical teenager with a double life as the famous pop star Hannah Montana.
In addition to the show, Cyrus also starred in other “Hannah Montana” franchises, including “Hannah Montana: The Movie” in 2009. She also headlined the Best of Both Worlds tour in 2011.
Miley Cyrus Is Open To Playing Hannah Montana Again
In 2020, Cyrus revealed that she was willing to play Hannah Montana again during a virtual appearance on the Carolina With Greg T In The Morning radio show. According to her, she tries to wear the wig all the time. Cyrus said. “She’s just in storage collecting dust, and I’m ready to whip her out … The opportunity will present itself.”
Cyrus added that she would like a “Hannah Montana” resurrection at some point, then joked about how she’ll need to go shopping since the character is stuck in 2008.
