You don’t get to choose the family you are born into. But Glen Powell was born lucky because the first time he opened his eyes to the world, he opened them to doting parents. The talented actor has credited his family with keeping him grounded and “getting him into all the right trouble” while growing up.
Even now, as an accomplished man, Glen spends a ridiculous amount of time with his parents and they are known to make cameos in his movies. Here are a few more things you should know about them.
Glen Powell’s Parents Have Been Together for Decades
Glen Powell Sr. and Cyndy Powell are the proud parents of actor Glen Powell. The pair tied the knot in 1984 and welcomed their first child, Lauren Powell Whatton, not long after in 1986. Glen, their only son, was born in 1988, while their younger daughter, Leslie Powell, arrived in 1992.

The actor has been vocal about his love for his family and how wild they can be. “I have a huge, rowdy Texas crew who gets me in all the right kinds of trouble,” he said in 2014. “If you are lucky enough to meet them, you’ll figure out quickly why I’m constantly home.”
He added, “And that all of my farfetched and seemingly impossible stories about my family are actually all true.” This November makes it four decades and a year since his parents got married, and their love is still burning fiercely.
Glen Powell on His Upbringing
Glen Powell was raised in Austin, Texas, by his parents. He once revealed in an interview that growing up in such a place taught him and his siblings to respect artistic pursuits rather than judge them.
When he became interested in movies, Glen Sr. and Cyndy wasted no time enrolling him in acting classes. But Glen says that while they encouraged creativity, the Powell household also loved rough-and-tumble antics.
Some of his wild childhood stories came in handy when Glen was trying to land a role in “The Expendables 3.” The actor reportedly wrote a letter to Sylvester Stallone containing some details of his childhood.
“I told him that in Texas, I grew up with a gun range in the basement, learned to fight from my uncles who lived and breathed mixed martial arts, and spent much of my childhood finding new and creative ways to cheat death,” Glen shared. “I had been preparing for this role my entire life.”
Camaraderie Among the Powells
Perhaps the best thing about Glen’s healthy relationship with his parents is the camaraderie between the three of them. His parents are known to visit him on set, flashing megawatt smiles. They also enjoy trolling him almost as much as they love supporting him.
When Glen was inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame in May 2024, Glen Sr. and Cyndy did not pass up the chance to cheer him on and troll him simultaneously. They stood behind their beloved son as he posed for photos on the red carpet, each holding up a cardboard sign.
Cyndy’s said, “Stop trying to make Glen Powell happen,” while Glen Sr.’s read, “It’s never gonna happen.”
They did it again in July 2024 when Glen was on the Today Show to promote his film “Twisters.” Glen Sr. and Cyndy appeared at the location with homemade signs that read, “I changed Glen Powell’s diapers” and “Glen Powell is our force of nature.” Glen joked then, “They always figure out where I am. I don’t know how they do it.”
Did Glen Powell’s Parents Cameo in “Twisters?”
Yes, Glen Powell’s parents had a cameo in “Twisters” their son’s recent movie. The actor has revealed in the past that his parents have been appearing in his movies for a long time, and it has now become a tradition.
Last December, Glen Powell revealed that his parents, Glen Sr. and Cyndy, were extras as airline passengers in his 2023 rom-com, “Anyone but You,” which also starred Sydney Sweeney. In May, he also said that some combination of his parents and two sisters would always turn up to support him on the sets of each of his projects, no matter how far it was from their Texas home.
Glen Powell’s mother once said, “I know we’re probably in his way sometimes, but you wouldn’t know it because he makes everyone feel loved and taken care of.”
What Scene Were Glen Powell’s Parents Most Recently In?
According to Glen Powell, his parents have made cameos in most of his movies, a tradition that started after they appeared in “Spy Kids 3.” They most recently appeared in the rodeo sequence of the 2024 movie “Twisters.” The “Top Gun: Maverick” star revealed this while previewing the new movie on “The Today Show.”
“There’s a great sequence midway through a rodeo sequence in the movie, and [my parents are] right behind Daisy Edgar-Jones and I,” he said. “You’ll be able to see them here in a second,” he continued as a clip played. “Yeah, they’re right behind us there…. Look at that.”
Did Glen Powell’s Parents Appear in Top Gun?
While his parents have made cameos in all his moves since “Spy Kids 3,” there is no report that they were extras in “Top Gun: Maverick.” The original “Top Gun” movie came out long before Glen Powell was born, so his parents could not have been in that.
