Celebs canceling on fans is not unusual, but it sucks because all parties involved are unhappy… presumably. Sometimes, fans even lash out on social media if something smells fishy. And this time, with Lauryn Hill and The Fugees, fans have realized something odd.
The Fugees will reportedly no longer tour the U.S. this year after canceling their plans just three days before the tour’s scheduled kick-off. The news caused a stir on social media but many did not seem all that disturbed that the tour is no longer happening.
There were also several references to the spectacle Lauryn Hill created last year when she implied concertgoers needed to be grateful she was on stage performing at all. well, here’s how fans reacted.
Lauryn Hill and The Fugees Canceled Their Tour “Quietly”
According to Variety, the group’s tour was “quietly” canceled on Tuesday, August 6. The tour was originally planned to kick off in Tampa, Florida, on Friday, August 9. It included 18 tour stops across the country.

Upon cancellation, the group’s show dates were reportedly removed from Ticketmaster. People who had purchased tickets reportedly received notices about the tour’s cancellation late that Tuesday.
However, ticket holders were offered refunds via a notice sent by Ticketmaster. The notice reads, “Your event has been canceled. A refund will be on its way to your account soon.”
One day after the cancellation, Hill issued a statement explaining why it was happening. According to her, the tour was canceled due to low turnout prompted by “clickbait headlines” that she believes were created after she canceled the previous final stretch of a tour last fall.
How Social Media Reacted
This recent cancellation makes it the third time in a row Lauryn Hill and The Fugees have canceled tour dates. That it is happening again this year does not seem to surprise many, and internet users implied as much.
After the cancellation became public via The Shade Room on Instagram, users took to the comment section to troll Hill. One user wrote, “if you buying any Lauryn Hill ticket in 2024, you just asking for it.” Another user added, “Lauryn said ‘nothing even matters at all.’” One angry person commented that they were about to “snap their cassette tape in half.”
Another wrote in mockery, “We already knew it was canceled when it was announced.” One particular comment stood out, mockingly referencing something Lauryn Hill said in 2023, proving that the internet never forgets.
Lauryn Hill’s Strong Message To Fans
While many users could not care less about the cancellation and were content to troll Hill, one Instagram user once again reminded everyone what Hill said last year at a concert. The user wrote, “Lauryn said, ‘Can’t be late if the show’s canceled.’” This was a reference to when Hill went viral for speaking her mind to fans during a concert in November 2023.
At the time, Hill was addressing the public’s concern about her being “late” to shows. “They hate that she’s late,” she told the crowd. “‘She’s late…’ Yo, y’all are lucky that I make it on this… stage every night!”
