Jim Carrey’s sister, Rita Carrey, has passed on. The tragic news was announced on November 15 in a Facebook post shared by her husband, Alex, via her page. The talented woman died on November 14, surrounded by family and friends, according to the post.
“It is with a heavy heart and my deepest sadness, surrounded by her family and friends, Rita passed away peacefully and quietly on November 14, 2024,” the post reads. Her cause of death is still unknown. While Jim Carrey is a household name, little is known about his sister Rita. Here’s all we know about her.

Rita Carrey was a Canadian singer who was able to make a name for herself in the entertainment industry while embracing her brother’s larger-than-life figure with humor. She once joked during an appearance on the talk show “What She Said,” “They always go, ‘Jim Carrey’s sister.’ So my name now is JCS — Jesus Christ Superstar — because I never get, ‘Oh, you’re Rita.’ It’s JCS.”

According to her Facebook profile, Rita was a co-host and producer of “The Peet & Reet Show.” She also worked for 4680Q, one of Niagara’s top online radio stations. At some point in the late ’90s, she fronted and wrote for a band named The Rita Carrey Band and was very active on social media while living in Ontario.
According to the post announcing her death, the late singer married her husband in July this past year after almost two decades of dating. The wedding reportedly took place outdoors, something Rita had always craved.
“It’s been a wonderful and crazy journey with Rita,” her husband concluded in his tribute. “She filled everyone’s heart with joy with every step she took, and I will never forget this beautiful and amazingly talented woman. Goodbye, my lover. Goodbye, my friend, Until we meet again. You really did have the Time of your life. Your bestest friend and husband.”

Given how close they were, calling them twins may not be so far fetched however they were not born twins. Jim, now a father of one, is the third child his parents welcomed while Rita was the second.
They have two other siblings, John and Patricia Carrey, but unfortunately, John passed on at age 60 in 2019 after a battle with a rare blood condition called aplastic anemia. Jim dedicated his debut 2020 novel “Memoirs and Misinformation” to him.
Very little is known about his youngest sibling, and what the world has seen of her comes from pictures her now-late older sister occasionally shared on social media. It is reported that she is married to Al Fournier.

During the interview, she talked about embracing Jim’s quirks and shared how his affinity for physical comedy manifested at a young age.
“That took years of Jim actually looking in the mirror and practicing facial expressions,” she said of his animated expressions. One day, Rita said their mom warned him about how he would see the devil if he kept it up, but it only made him do it more. None of them knew what it would lead to, but it certainly was not to hell.
