Ingrid Andress had to make some tough decisions recently following a big mistake that left many tongues wagging on social media. It all started Monday when she performed the national anthem at the 2024 Home Run Derby.
Frankly, Andress was not at her best, and those who watched the performance were only too aware of that. Fortunately, Andress addressed the issue before it developed into something she could not handle herself.
Ingrid Andress Botched National Anthem Performance
The Home Run Derby was held on Monday and left a lasting impression on those who witnessed it. And no it was not the Derby itself that made it so memorable for many, it was Ingrid Andress performing the national anthem.
Her rendition came after an entertaining introduction of the eight Home Run Derby contestants by actor/comedian Marcello Hernández of “Saturday Night Live” fame. However, it did not make people as hyped.

When the singing started, Andress was missing notes along the way, which drew quite visible reactions from the players who were available. Meanwhile, internet users were already talking about it off the pitch and on social media.
Many quickly compared the performance to Fergie’s live version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game and Roseanne Barr’s infamous rendition of the song at a Padres game in 1990.
One user wrote, “Fergie watching Ingrid Andress claim her crown for the worst national anthem of all time.” Another exclaimed, “Ingrid Andress has been placed on the 60-day IL with a torn esophagus.”
The perplexing rendition even had some people asking, “Can Ingrid Andress sing?” as many wondered how she had a career in music with such a poor delivery. However, the county music star reportedly had a good reason for the mishap, and she explained herself one day later.
Ingrid Andress Apologizes
Breaking her silence on her woeful performance at the Derby, Andress wrote, “I’m checking myself into a facility. That was not me.” The statement came on Tuesday, July 16, in response to the stir the performance was causing on social media.
Andress confessed that she was drunk during the performance and is now looking to get treated. She wrote on Instagram: “I’m not gonna bulls— y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night.”
Her statement continued, “I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is. I hear it’s super fun. xo, Ingrid.”
How Internet Users Reacted to Her Apology
It is true that her performance left much to be desired. But coming out like that and revealing such a weakness may have just been enough to arrest the building chaos and transform it into support.
After she had shared her apology, the comments section was inundated with encouragement and support from her friends, colleagues, and even regular social media users. Carly Pearce wrote, “I’m sending you love, Ingrid. Being this open takes a lot. You’ve got this. Hang in there.”
Julia Michaels added, “Love you girl. I’m sorry you’re going through this, And I’m sorry the world can be so cruel. Here for you xx” Matt Stell called Andress a “badass,” while George Birge pointed out that “this takes guts.”
Ingrid Andress and Depression
A possible reason Ingrid Andress needs rehab may have to do with alcoholism triggered by depression. Before her national anthem performance, the country star sent a newsletter to fans to “clear the air” about something she experienced.
“I had to part ways with some people who’ve helped me make a name for myself. It sent me into what my country America calls ‘depression,’ but I’m not a doctor,” she wrote. “I was at the lowest point I’ve ever been, so I decided to go back to where I grew up in Colorado.”
“Sometimes all it takes is a few hours in your hometown to remember who you actually are, and you start to be proud of the person you’ve become,” Andress added. “I hope everyone has their own Colorado to go back to when they’re feeling lost.”

Hours before her national anthem performance, Andress also revealed her new single, “Colorado,” which will hit the waves on July 24. She wrote on Instagram, “Thank you for being here for me even though I’ve been living under a rock. Y’all are the best, and I can’t wait to see you at my shows (stay tuned for more show announcements soon).”
