Avon Products has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy while trying to manage its debt and legal challenges. Well, these legal challenges are linked to allegations that its talc-based products were contaminated with substances that could cause cancer.
Interestingly, the company has not sold its products in the U.S. since divesting its North American business in 2016; however, it remains the holding company for the brand’s operations outside the country.

According to John Dubel, the chair of Avon Products, the bankruptcy filing and the proposed sale of Avon’s operations outside the country are intentional. Dubel revealed that they are all strategic moves aimed at increasing asset value and managing the company’s financial obligations orderly.

Avon’s operations outside the United States are not included in the bankruptcy proceedings. In fact, the operations outside the country will continue to function normally during this period.
Natura & Co., the Brazil-based company that acquired Avon in 2020, recently agreed to purchase the equity interests in Avon’s non-U.S. operations for $125 million through a credit bid. However, this is subject to a court-supervised auction process.
Furthermore, Natura is offering up to $43 million in financing, pending court approval, to ensure Avon Products has the necessary liquidity to meet its obligations throughout the sale process.
The Avon Company, which manages the Avon brand in the U.S. under the operation of LG Household & Health Care Ltd., is not connected to other Avon entities. Additionally, it is not involved in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.
