Ice-T has been starring in “Law & Order: SVU,” a long-running police procedural series renewed for a 26th season in March, for several years now. On August 27, he reacted to claims made about the franchise storylines. One fan claimed on X, formerly Twitter, that the series had become too “woke” in recent seasons.
While reacting to a photo Ice-T posted on set, the fan wanted to know, “Did they write ‘SVU’ back to normal yet? It started to go woke.” Ice-T replied, “What the F is woke? Lol. Like I give a f—.”
It is a little tough to decide if he was defending the franchise or letting the public know he doesn’t care what happens as long as he gets paid, but it is on record that he had a retort for the curious fan.
Ice-T Originally Only Signed On To Do a Few Episodes
Not many would be surprised Ice-T’s reply to the fan was his way of defending the show. After all, Ice-T once confessed that he hit the jackpot with the show. The actor’s character was only to appear in four episodes and then fade out, but that did not happen. He has been on the show for over two decades and loves it.
Ice-T admitted that he felt lucky to have landed his role during an interview with PEOPLE in January. The “Colors” rapper called the NBC series “special” and said that he’s genuinely “hit the jackpot” with his spot on the show.
“I think SVU is a special show because it’s the first time I’ve ever done something where people walk up in the street and say thank you,” he elaborated. Ice-T has come to realize that the show is not just entertainment but also therapy for “survivors.” As such, he feels proud to be a part of it. Even if some think the show has gone “woke.”
Ice-T Portrays the Second Longest-Running Character in the Show’s Tenure
The talented rapper-actor has been portraying Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola on “Law & Order: SVU” since 2000. This makes him the second longest-running character in the show’s tenure, second only to Olivia Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay.
NBC announced plans to renew “Law & Order: SVU” for a historic 26th season in March and Ice-T will reprise his role as the Sergeant. He will also be joined by Hargitay, Peter Scanavino and Octavio Pisano.
The show previously set the record as the longest-running primetime live-action series in history, and now that it is scheduled for renewal, it will continue to hold that title.
Ice-T’s Movies and TV shows
The multi-talented actor’s first taste of true fame came after he focused on music following his 1985 car crash. However, Ice-T has gone multi-industry since then, appearing in movies and TV shows that have significantly boosted his financial portfolio and kept him relevant in Hollywood.
He has played Detective Odafin Tutuola in four different series: “Law & Order” (1990), “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (1999), “30 Rock” (2006) and “Chicago P.D.” (2014). His repeated portrayal of a cop is thought to be ironic because he had a feud with the L.A.P.D. at some point because of his song “Cop Killer.”
Ice-T’s other popular movies and TV shows include “New Jack City,” where he got his start in acting, “Surviving the Game,” and “Tank Girl.”
Meet Ice-T’s Wife Coco
Yes, rapper Ice-T is still married to Coco, and they are happy, too. The pair have been married for over two decades now. They met in 2001 and tied the knot in Las Vegas one year later. The union had its own challenges, but they endured them all. In 2015, when they welcomed their daughter, Chanel, they fell deeper in love with one another.
Throughout their marriage, Coco and Ice-T have supported each other and have been the other’s greatest defenders. Ice-T has been known to take her side on topics that have her getting chewed out on social media, and she does not entertain any slander against the actor either.
Do Ice-T and Coco Have a Baby?
Yes, Ice-T and Coco have a child named Chanel, who they welcomed in 2015. She is Ice-T’s third child but Coco’s first. Ice-T has revealed they have a unique approach that works for them when it comes to parenting. “Our parenting is a lot different than the normal, square couple from Oklahoma. I’m a f—— rock star, it’s different,” he once shared.

The birth of Ice-T’s daughter, Chanel, made him a father for the third time, but her arrival still had a huge impact on his life. When he appeared on The Big Tigger Show, he revealed what it’s been like raising a child with Coco. He said: “Muhammad Ali said it best, ‘When a man has a child in the second half of his life, after 50, it resets his life.’”
