Zachery Ty Bryan, known for his role in “Home Improvement,” is in legal trouble in California. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Bryan’s arrest on Saturday, February 17, 2024. This happened after La Quinta Sheriff’s Station deputies pulled over a vehicle suspected of involvement in a traffic collision at 2:01 a.m.
The deputies detected signs of impairment in the driver, leading to his arrest on charges of driving under the influence with priors. Following Bryan’s arrest, officers booked him into a Riverside County jail. Additionally, he faces a misdemeanor charge of contempt of court.
Over the years, Zachery Ty Bryan, best known for his role as Brad, Tim Allen’s son in the sitcom, “Home Improvement,” has faced several legal issues. In 2020, he faced charges of domestic violence, resulting in convictions on two counts.
Subsequently, in 2023, Bryan faced another apprehension in connection with a domestic violence incident. The Eugene Police Department in Oregon reported in July 2023 that they booked him into Lane County Jail. There, he faced charges of assault in the fourth degree following reports of a physical dispute between him and a woman.

In October 2023, Zachery Ty Bryan pleaded guilty to felony assault in the fourth degree. This was part of a plea deal that led to the dismissal of a second count of felony assault and a two-year prison sentence. The court sentenced him to a week in jail and 36 months of supervised probation.
His probation terms included strict conditions, such as seeking approval from the probation officer to contact the victim. Additionally, it included undergoing treatment for alcohol/substance abuse as directed by the probation officer and abstaining from alcohol or drugs.
In the same October, Bryan’s attorney, John Kolego, informed USA TODAY that his client had accepted the resolution. According to Kolego, Zachery Ty Bryan admitted to recklessly causing physical injury to his domestic partner.
The decision was due to a desire to facilitate the necessary assistance for the family. Moreover, it was to allow them to move forward and avoid inflicting any more pain or trauma. In June, Allen addressed Bryan’s legal troubles during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
He was uncertain about Bryan’s situation, saying, “I don’t know what’s going on with him.” Allen described Bryan as a great kid who grew into a complex man.

Acknowledging the challenges, Allen emphasized the need to step aside and allow Bryan to navigate through his process. Moreover, he noted that at a certain point, Zachery Ty Bryan seemed to be different from the person he knew, reacting to situations beyond Allen’s control or influence.
Notably, authorities dismissed six additional charges related to the October 2020 incident. These charges include harassment, coercion, strangulation, interference with making a report, and second counts of menacing and assault in the fourth degree.
Zachery Ty Bryan commented on the recent incident, stating it was “so blown out of proportion.” He noted that the couple’s conflict was due to the secrecy surrounding their relationship. This is particularly true during his marriage to Carly Matros, with whom he has four children. As of Monday, February 19, 2024, jail records indicated that Bryan is still in custody.
