Rumors of Euphoria’s cancellation shocked fans of the hit drama starring Zendaya. They thought it was renewed in 2022 but were delayed due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes. However, a representative for HBO recently dismissed rumors that the show was canceled.

HBO Denies “Euphoria” Season Three Cancellation
Earlier this year, Francesca Orsi, the executive vice president of HBO Programming and head of HBO Drama Series and Films, said the show’s production would begin in January 2025.
“We could not be happier with our creative partnership with [creator] Sam [Levinson] and this incredible cast,” Orsi shared in his July statement. “We look forward to bringing this new season of ‘Euphoria’ to life for the fans.”

“Euphoria” was renewed for a third season in February 2022 and was originally scheduled to begin filming in the spring or early summer of 2024.
Those plans were delayed due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes and script delays. The show follows Rue Bennett (Zendaya) as she struggles with sobriety and her friends and classmates.
“Euphoria’s” Cancellation Is Not Happening: The Plot So Far
The second Season of the hit drama left fans to mourn the heartbreaking demise of Ashtray (Javon Walton). Fez’s fate was also left uncertain following a standoff with the police. Meanwhile, Rue seemed to have stayed on the straight and narrow side for the rest of that school year.
The season ended with a voiceover of Rue saying, “I stayed clean through the rest of the school year. I wish I could say that was a decision I made. In some ways, it was just easier. I don’t know if this feeling will last forever, but I am trying.”
In real life, Zendaya and the rest of the “Euphoria” cast were devastated when Cloud passed away unexpectedly at age 25 in August 2023 following an accidental drug overdose.
Members of the Euphoria Cast That May Not Return for Season 3
Aside from Angus, who has passed on, another core character who will not return in season 3 is Kat Hernandez (Barbie Ferreira). The actress announced her departure with “a very teary-eyed goodbye” on social media several months after season 3 was announced.
There has also been speculation on the fate of other popular characters, especially since cast members like Elordi and Sweeney have ascended to new levels of fame. Fortunately, Sweeney has revealed a desire to reprise her role as Cassandra “Cassie” Howard.
Earlier this year, she told PEOPLE how excited she is “to jump back into” her character. “She is definitely one of the most special characters for me, and I love my Euphoria family, so I look forward to it,” Sweeney said.
