Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein is in the hospital again. The producer is back to receive care after physicians discovered that he had cancer. In addition to Harvey Weinstein’s cancer diagnosis, he has a number of other serious health challenges to surmount while he attends to his lengthy trials for sexual misconduct.
Weinstein is also suing New York City over what he believes is their malicious handling of his health. He is accusing NYC Health and Hospitals and Bellevue Hospital of “ongoing medical negligence.” He has cited the city’s refusal to keep him at Bellevue Hospital during his retrial as proof that they don’t mean well for him.
His legal team has also stated that this action will further put his health and ability to attend his retrial in danger. As a result, his absence from the court will harm his ability to defend himself adequately. Interestingly, his team believes the move is deliberate and represents “a broader agenda for a more sinister outcome through lawfare and inadequate healthcare.”
Harvey Weinstein, 72, is also accusing the city of denying him adequate medical care. He, however, clarified that he doesn’t believe that the medical staff at Riker’s Island, Correctional Health Services, or his physicians have a hand in the “medical negligence” or his current predicament. Weinstein stated that he has “deep respect” for them.

What Happened to Harvey Weinstein?
Harvey Weinstein has been in the eye of the storm since he became the object of multiple damning allegations of sexual abuse. Trouble started for the top film producer in October 2017 when over 80 women accused him of sexual crimes. Afterward, he became the leading villain in the popular #MeToo movement.
In May 2018, the accusations from two of the women led to formal charges against him. The accusers are Miriam Haleyi, his former production assistant, and Jessica Mann, a newbie actress. They alleged that the Miramax and The Weinstein Company founder sexually assaulted and raped them.
Prosecutors believed they had enough evidence to charge him. They charged him with two counts of rape, two counts of predatory sexual assault, and one count of criminal sexual act. Harvey Weinstein protested against the allegations. He argued that his sexual encounters with both women happened with their permission.
Less than two years later, a New York court found him guilty of first-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree rape. The February 2020 verdict led to a sentence of 23 years in prison for him. Yet, there were more legal troubles ahead.
In July 2021, authorities moved Weinstein to Los Angeles. There, he was to answer to additional sexual misconduct charges. But his defense wasn’t successful. In December 2022, he bagged an additional sentence of 16 years in jail. This sentence was to take effect aside from his New York punishment.
Weinstein had reason for a sigh of relief when his appeal led to the overturning of his New York sentence. The Court of Appeal stated that his trial was unfair and ordered a retrial. It is this retrial that Weinstein argues that New York City’s actions have put them in jeopardy.
Is Harvey Weinstein Still in Jail?
Weinstein had been serving his 23-year sentence in Rome, New York before it was upturned. Authorities have relocated him from his original detention location in Riker’s Island to Wende Correctional Facility in Erie County since March 2020.
But he will remain in jail as a result of the 2022 sexual assault conviction in Los Angeles. But this means he will move to a California jail to serve the sentence. However, he has also filed an appeal seeking to upturn it.

Does Harvey Weinstein Have Cancer?
In October 2020, Harvey Weinstein’s attorneys declared that he would likely die in prison due to his worsening physical and mental condition. His health has continually suffered a terrible blow since his court visits began. Notable among his health challenges is his battle with cancer.
Harvey Weinstein’s cancer diagnosis has been a source of worry since sources confirmed that he suffered from the disease. But cancer is just one out of several serious health setbacks for Weinstein. “The defendant is almost blind, and he’s not ambulatory, and he’s on 20 medications,” his lawyer also announced.
The lawyer listed Weinstein’s ailments to include diabetic coronary artery disease, retinopathy, and pressure on his back nerves. This nerve pressure makes it difficult for him to walk. Weinstein underwent an emergency heart surgery in September. He was also hurriedly taken to the hospital when he had chest pain in the same month.
What Type of Cancer Is Harvey Weinstein Suffering From?
Harvey Weinstein’s cancer diagnosis shows that he suffers from chronic myeloid leukemia. This is cancer of the blood cells whose negative effects begin from the bone marrow.
His New York healthcare representative, Craig Rothfeld, declined to comment on his condition when journalists asked him about it. “Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy, we will offer no further comment,” he stated.
Aside from his health, the Lord of the Rings producer has also faced a crumbling family. His second wife, Georgina Chapman, divorced him in the wake of the allegations. Also, Harvey Weinstein’s kids have struggled to maintain a relationship with him. He shares two children with Chapman and three daughters with his first wife, Eve Chilton.
