Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. But Deka Simmons did not wait to be scorned before she unleashed deadly fury on a sex offender in 2022. August 2024 saw a judge sentence the Colorado woman to life behind bars for a murder she carried out.
Authorities say that the woman alleged that she took Daxcimo Ceja’s life because he was a sex offender. Simmons will do life without the possibility of parole after the gruesome killing and the carelessness of how she discarded the body after.
As far as she was concerned, she may have been ridding society of what she deemed evil. But the law disagreed as it had already vindicated the man.
How Deka Simmons Killed Daxcimo Ceja
Authorities claim a witness reported Simmons shot and killed Ceja in a garage, after which she dismembered and froze his body. She might have gotten away with it, too, but authorities found DNA she left behind in the garage and were able to link it to her.
According to prosecutors, Simmons killed Ceja, 48, after she found out he allegedly had a relationship with a 17-year-old girl when he was 25 in California. They described Simmons as a woman with an “unrestrained hatred for anyone who would molest a child” while highlighting her fear of her daughter falling prey to sex trafficking.
Deka Simmons Discarded Her Victim’s Body in a Bag
Local police discovered Ceja’s remains on October 5, 2023, after they responded to an anonymous tip. The remains were inside a bag in a drainage culvert in Colorado Springs, and they recovered it with help from the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.
After looking through its contents, they confirmed that unidentified human remains were inside the bag, and arrangements were made to run an autopsy on the unidentified body parts. On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, the Coroner’s Office identified the human remains as those of Daxcimo Ceja of Colorado Springs.
The late Ceja had previously been identified as the victim of a homicide. But his remains had been missing until that point. The investigation into Ceja’s homicide began on March 30, 2022, and Simmons was arrested on a first-degree murder charge concerning the case that April.
Deka Simmons’ Sentence
Deka Simmons, 40, was sentenced on Wednesday, August 21, to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of Daxcimo Ceja.
Given her motivation, it would not be too shocking to discover Ceja was not her first murder. Already, she is a suspect in three other homicides. However, she hasn’t been charged in connection with any killings aside from Ceja’s.
Simmons will also serve an additional 24 years for tampering with a dead body and another three years for tampering with physical evidence. The judge has ordered that her sentence be served consecutively.

Ceja’s Mother, Karen Fancher, Spoke at the Sentencing
Ceja’s mother, Karen Fancher, was in court at the sentencing, and she had some things to get off her mind. “[Ceja] was killed for something he did 24 years ago,” she said. “[Simmons] won’t be on the street to hurt anyone else’s families like she has done her whole entire life.”
His father, Barry Fancher, also vouched for him. He said, “Dax [Ceja] was a good person” who “didn’t deserve to go out this way.” Despite their statements, Ceja had some issues with the law regarding his sex offender status.
He was not listed as a convicted sex offender in the state of California, where the alleged relationship took place. Whereas there was a warrant out for his arrest for failing to register as a sex offender.
