Elton John’s health has taken a dive in recent years, but the British legendary musician has been graciously keeping his fans abreast of developments. On Tuesday, September 3, he disclosed via his Instagram account that he has been battling a “severe eye infection.”
On another occasion, Elton John thanked his fans and everyone who stood by him during his prolonged health battles. Elton John’s health has been a major object of concern for millions of music lovers across the globe. His health situation made the multiple award-winning singer retire from touring in 2023.
At the time, the Grammy Award winner had just completed his Farewell Yellow Brick Road world tour. It was his 49th concert tour which started on September 8, 2018, in Allentown, Pennsylvania in the United States. The tour came to a halt on July 8, 2023, in Stockholm, Sweden.
The tour, which took a long break due to the pandemic, saw Elton John perform in 330 concerts across the globe. The singer would have loved to do one more tour, which would have been the 50th and a more memorable number, but his health began to take its toll on his energy. But what’s really wrong with Elton John’s health?

What Happened to Elton John?
Elton John has had numerous spells at the hospital over the past few years. He’s been receiving attention concerning his eyes and a number of body organs. But recently, he has spent most of his time at home trying to recover his health.
Writing in the social media post, the 77-year-old said, “Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye. I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process, and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”
“I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks,” he continued. Also, he has been “quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.”
Elton John, whose full name is Elton Hercules John, also mentioned several organs and body parts he’s removed over the past few years. In an interview at the New York Film Festival, John revealed that he doesn’t have tonsils, adenoids, or an appendix.
“I don’t have a prostate. I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee,” he stated. He then dropped the bombshell when he said, “To be honest with you, there’s not much of me left.” He granted the interview after the screening of “Elton John: Never Too Late,” a documentary that x-rays memorable moments of his life and 50-year-old musical career.
Is Elton John in a Wheelchair?
At the moment, Elton John isn’t using a wheelchair. However, he stunned his fans when reports emerged in 2022 that the singer used one during his concert tour. However, John swiftly clarified the situation via his Instagram handle.
“After another rousing 2.5-hour show, we arrived at the Leipzig airport, just before the curfew, to find part of the airport had closed,” he shared. “It was an extremely long walk to get to the plane, so my team kindly laid [me] on a wheelchair so I could rest my hip after the show.”
The Middlesex, England-born singer hasn’t been comfortable in his pelvic region. “The only thing left to me is my left hip. But I’m still here. And I can’t thank you [enough], you’re the people that made me,” he stated. Despite his battles, John made sure to put smiles on his fans’ faces when he took to the stage during the annual New York Film Festival.
Is Elton John a Diabetic?
Elton John’s health challenges also include diabetes. Doctors diagnosed him with Type B diabetes some years ago. John has also disclosed that his weight has been a problem for him. “I’ve always had a weight issue… and I think it takes a long time for you to come to terms with that. I don’t think I will ever will,” he said.
He also disclosed that he shied away from watching footage of himself as a result. “I never watch myself on video, a show I’ve done, a TV show I’ve done… don’t like to look at myself. I don’t have a good body image. It’s been part of me since I was a kid,” he explained.

How Many Children Does Elton John Have?
Elton John and his husband, David Furnish, have two children, Zachary, 14, and Elijah, 12. Both parents have utilized every opportunity to show how proud they are of the two boys they got via surrogacy. John has described the kids as “the greatest thing in our lives.”
“If you’d had said to me ten years ago I’d be sitting on your show married to the man I love and have two beautiful children, I would have said, ‘You put acid in my drink.’ But life throws you challenges and life throws you curveballs — great curveballs — and these two children have come along at a time I never thought I’d have children,” he said.
Elton John’s health, as well as his morality, has been a worry for Zachary and Elijah. He revealed in his documentary that his kids love him so much and want him to be around forever. “I want to see them have children and get married. I don’t think I’m going to be around for that,” the singer lamented.
