Ashanti is proof that it is better late than never. The talented singer welcomed her first child at 43 with her husband Nelly, 49, and they are swamped with love. The pair shared the fantastic news via Instagram. The post included a montage of pictures that captured Ashanti standing in disposable underwear in front of a mirror.
Among the pictures was one of the proud mom showing off her postpartum body. “Four weeks postpartum,” she wrote. “You have no idea what this body can do.”
She also revealed how long she has been waiting to become a mother and expressed pride in her body’s ability to grant her wish. According to the post, they named the baby Kenkaide Haynes, and a rep for the couple said the pair had fallen deeply in love with their little bundle of joy.

Ashanti Announced Her Pregnancy at the Same Time She Revealed She and Nelly Got Engaged
Ashanti first revealed she was expecting a child in a video she posted on her page. In the video, Ashanti, 43, was getting ready for a performance when her mom, Tina Douglas, asked her how much time she needed.
“Uh, I’m gonna need about nine months,” Ashanti tells her, shocking her mom. The singer also talked to Essence about it, revealing that she is not only expecting a child but that she and Nelly, 49, are engaged.
Ashanti said, “Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”
The pair initially sparked pregnancy rumors when they stepped out together at the Four Seasons Hotel in December 2023. Fans could not help but notice the pair shared a moment on stage when the singer rested her hands on her stomach, and he mirrored her action.
After that, their eyes met, and they both burst into big smiles and laughter. It was not hard for many to put two and two together.
When Did Nelly and Ashanti Tie the Knot?
Nelly and Ashanti married on December 27, 2023, in St. Louis County, Missouri. Despite their superstar status, they kept their marriage a secret for six months before they shared the news in June 2024.
The wedding came shortly after they reconciled. In September 2023, Nelly revealed that he was back with Ashanti during an appearance on the Boss Moves with Rasheeda show and confessed that the reconciliation “surprised” them both.
“It wasn’t anything that we planned. We both were pretty much doing what we do,” he explained. The rapper added that the time they spent apart helped them realize what they were doing wrong, and they eventually decided to try again.
How Many Kids Does Nelly Have?
With the arrival of Kenkaide, Nelly now has five children. His children include Shawn, Chanelle, Sydney, and Cornell. Chanelle was born in 1994; she is Nelly’s oldest child and has followed in his footsteps into music.
Cornell, born in 1999, is a producer and an ex-football player. He, Chantelle, and Kenkaide are the only ones among the five who share blood with the rapper. The other two kids were adopted. Shawn Thomas was adopted by Nelly in 2005, while Sydney was adopted after his sister Jackie Donahue died in 2005.
