Everyone seems to be opening up about their plastic surgery, as it has become normal. One such person is Christina Applegate, who recently talked about her experience with plastic surgery on her podcast. According to the actress, she underwent a cosmetic procedure after receiving critical feedback about her appearance from a notable producer.
In the latest episode of “MeSsy,” which she co-hosts with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Applegate recounted an incident where a well-known producer on one of her shows made a disturbing comment about her eye bags.
The producer pointed out that the lighting team was having difficulty because of her under-eye bags and suggested she get them removed. How audacious!
More Details About the Comments Christina Applegate Received From a Producer
Applegate, 52, explained that these under-eye bags were a hereditary trait, something she inherited from her father. Despite this, the comment made her feel self-conscious and pressured to adjust her appearance. At the age of 27, she chose to have surgery to address the issue.
This begs the question: Why do people think they have the right to comment on another person’s looks? On the same podcast, Christina Applegate humorously mentioned that her father has always had noticeable under-eye bags, which she referred to as “Louis Vuitton luggage.”

Christina Applegate Opens Up About Health Struggles and Mental Health Battle
Christina Applegate has been transparent about her ongoing health challenges since she announced her multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis in 2021. While discussing with her podcast co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who has similar issues, Applegate emphasized the emotional difficulties they face, particularly the use of a cane.
Both actresses noted that they experience shame and self-consciousness when using mobility aids. Sigler once said, “I’m so shameful to carry a cane. And I really, I really wish I wasn’t that way, but I really struggle with it big time.”
Applegate echoed these sentiments, adding, “I feel self-conscious when I have my cane. I feel self-conscious about the fact that I’m like this… but I know for myself, I don’t know what’s, what would be worse, me falling.”
More recently, Applegate also opened up about her mental health struggles amid her battle with MS. She revealed she has been experiencing severe depression, describing it as “a real, f— it all depression where it’s kind of scaring me a little bit because it feels really fatalistic.”
She added, “I’m trapped in this darkness right now that I haven’t felt like… I don’t even know how long, probably 20-something years.” This level of honesty highlights the profound impact the chronic illness has had on her life.

Industry Pressures and Personal Struggles
In addition to being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Christina Applegate also revealed that she underwent liposuction on her legs at age 26. Speaking about the experience, she noted during the May 2024 episode, “I had a teeny, tiny bit of fat on my leg in the back, and our doctor performed this surgery on me.”
Elsewhere, Applegate opened up about her struggles with anorexia during her decade-long stint on “Married with Children.” At that time, she revealed that she had never previously discussed her eating disorder in public, sharing that she desired her bones to be visible and consequently restricted her food intake severely.
Starting at age 15, as the sitcom began, Applegate’s mother enrolled her in Weight Watchers, which worsened her unhealthy relationship with food. Describing her mother as competitive, Applegate recalled, “If I got down to 110 pounds, she’d ask, ‘How’d you do it?’ The reason was I had an eating disorder.”
She added, “I would eat five almonds in a day, and if I had six, I would cry and not want to leave the house. That stuck with me for years.”
