Katie Lee Gifford, 70, was hospitalized due to a fall she suffered at her home. This happened even while she was yet to completely recover from a recent hip replacement surgery.
Unfortunately, the TV host fractured her pelvis in two places. As a result, she had to remain in the hospital bed for more than a week.
Kathie Lee Gifford’s Fall at Nashville
The former Today co-host had quite a hectic day at a Nashville book signing that was held at her residence. At the end of the day’s event, she said she had “moved 300 books by myself.”
The day after the book signing, one of her friends came over to pick her up. While hurrying to the door, she tripped and fell. “I weakened my body,” she added. “It’s my own fault.”
Her Body Was Still Weak From a Surgery
She fell in the middle of a recovery process for a hip replacement surgery she had recently undergone. “It didn’t take much because I was weak in that spot,” Gifford told journalists.
“The next thing you know, I’m back in the hospital with a fractured pelvis, the front and back. That’s more painful than anything I went through with the hip,” she added.
A “Humbling Experience” for Kathie Lee Gifford
According to the TV personality, the fall was a “humbling experience.” She decided to stay in the hospital for at least one week because she didn’t want to take any chances this time.
Gifford wants to enjoy the later days of her life, and spending weeks in the hospital isn’t part of the plan. Hopefully, she doesn’t make a return.

Gifford has fully come to terms with the fact that she can’t muster the same energy she used to have a decade ago. Old age is taking its toll on her.
“You think you know your body, and the next thing you know, your body changes when you get older,” she said. “As much as I don’t want to think about it, I am.”
Time for Kathie Lee Gifford to Slow Down
Gifford has realized that it’s time to take her foot off the gas. “It’s summer for everybody but me,” she said. “But it’s okay. I’m going to get out to my little farm one of these days and stick my feet in my salt pool.”
“The Lord is telling me it’s time to slow down. I’ve been running my whole life. The Lord is telling me, ‘You’ve planted a gazillion roses. Try smelling them.’”
Kathie Lee Gifford Talked About Knee Surgery Experience
At the beginning of July 2024, Kathie Lee Gifford spoke about her hip replacement surgery. She called it “one of the most painful situations of my entire life.”
Her surgeon told her that she needed the surgery because she took part in lots of physically exerting activities during her younger days. Her body needed some fresh support after all the hard work.
“You Never Took Off Your High Heels”
Gifford recalled what her doctor said to her when he recommended the surgery. “You climbed mountains, you made movies, you got on stages,” he said.
“You never took off your high heels, and you kept going, and that’s why you’re going through what you’re going through,” he concluded. Truly, Gifford has lived a life full of a rich variety of experiences. Does she think maybe she did too much?
No Regrets for Kathie Lee Gifford
Speaking about whether she would have lived life a little differently if she had another chance, the singer and songwriter’s answer remains an emphatic “No.” She is satisfied with the life she lived.
“Would I change that? No, I was doing what God put me on this earth to do. Every year of it, I was doing what He called me to do,” she responded.
She Has Released a New Book
Kathie Lee Gifford was excited to discuss her new book, “Herod and Mary: The True Story of the Tyrant King and the Mother of the Risen Savior.”
According to an official description, the book digs deep into how “an ancient evil threatened the stability of a nation, and how a teenage Mary was called to traverse these obstacles to bring the savior, Jesus… into the world.”
She Spoke On How She Got the Idea for the Book
Kathie Lee Gifford also disclosed how she came about the idea for the book. She said the idea came a few years ago while she was on a rabbinical trip to Israel.
It was her son Cody Gifford, 34, who suggested and persuaded her to tell some of the stories behind the historical sites they visited. “These are stories that need to be told because people need hope,” he emphasized.
Kathie Lee Gifford Wants Her Life to Please God
Gifford’s paramount desire is to live the rest of her life in service to God and humanity. She wants her remaining years to be useful.
“I am a strong woman, but I am a woman who for 60 years has been trying to do godly work, trying to do the right thing, trying to love people, trying to represent the Kingdom of God,” she said. Hopefully, she gets to accomplish her desire.
