Rod Stewart is going out with a bang. He is 79 years old, but he still lives like a man half that age. He drinks after his shows and gets busy with showbiz work, too, and there are always those other things he gets up to that the public never gets to find out.
In a recent interview with The Sun, Stewart discussed his mortality and how he thinks about it. While he may have accepted what is coming, the wiry old man says he has no plan to slow down now. He said in his new interview, “I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can.”
Rod Stewart Looks Death in the Face … Then Drinks
Rod Stewart has no doubt lived an eventful life, but that does not mean he is just ready to surrender to death. Or, God forbid, even fear it. During his interview with The Sun, Stewart opened up about feeling like he’s entering the final stages of life at age 79.
However, the singer, who’s in the midst of his Las Vegas residency and scheduled to tour the world through February 2025, refuses to slow down just yet.

He said, “I’m aware my days are numbered, but I’ve got no fear. We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket. I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can… I say a few — probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy.”
Despite his defiance, Stewart has been taking some precautions. Of course, they won’t change the future, only slow down its approach. For one, he does not party as hard as he used to and is working extra hard to protect his voice.
He said, “Nowadays, I have to protect my voice before and after every show. The older you get, the more you have to do that. Water has a hell of a lot to do with it. But no, you think I just have water on my rider?”
Of course, he still brings the fun anytime they have a successful show. The “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” performer said, “You’re talking to Rod Stewart here, mate. We go mad after every show. There are 13 of us, six women, really great musicians, and I make them drink. We absolutely love it.”
What Comes Next For Rod Stewart?
Rod Stewart is one of the few rare people who can say they have done most of all they want with their time on earth. He is a successful artist, a proud husband to Penny Lancaster, and a father of eight.
Elsewhere in his interview with The Sun, Stewart discussed his thriving relationship with Lancaster, whom he married in 2007. He gushed, “I am an old romantic. We enjoy candle-lit dinners, and we are still very much in love with each other.”
“My top tips to keep the romance alive is being honest with each other and talking things through,” added Stewart. “That, and don’t have an argument just before you go to bed after loads of wine. Penny is amazing. A great, great lady.”
As far as showbiz goes, Rod Stewart still has tours. But he said during the interview that aside from his scheduled performances and plans to tour the United Kingdom with Holland, he’s “not really made my mind up in terms of what’s next.”
