On Sunday, March 10, 2025, Toni Braxton appeared at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 32nd annual Academy Awards viewing party. She opened up on how “The Braxton family” is returning to TV with a new reality series.
While walking the red carpet at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 32nd annual Oscar viewing party in West Hollywood, she spoke to ET’s Cassie DiLaura. The renowned singer discussed her new WE series, “The Braxton.” Notably, the star’s announcement comes after the end of “Braxton Family Values” and two years after the death of her sister, Traci Braxton. Toni Braxton Talks About New TV Series Currently in the Works
The talented singer spoke about the new show at the event and what inspired it. “You know, it’s really important [because] we lost one of our sisters,” Toni Braxton said. “She wanted us to do this show again, and we were hesitant at first.” The renowned singer added, “But we said, ‘We’re gonna do it for Traci.'”
“What’s important about doing our show is [telling] real stories about family,” she added. And I think when people see our stories, maybe we can help them cope with a loss in the family.”

Traci Braxton’s Death
According to sources, Traci Braxton died on March 12, 2022, at 50. She reportedly had esophageal cancer for at least one year before her death.
“We have come to a time where we must inform the public that after a year of privately undergoing a series of treatments for Esophageal cancer, our beloved Traci Braxton has gone on to glory,” her husband Kevin Surratt said in a statement to NBC News.
Her publicist, Tomasina Perkins-Washington, revealed that Traci’s sisters, mother, and friends were by her side when she passed. Furthermore, Perkins-Washington said she also spent her last year in hospice.
Toni Braxton Reflects on Sister’s Death, Speaks Further About the WE Series
Toni Braxton and her family, including Towanda, Trina, Tamar, and family matriarch Dr. Evelyn Braxton, are healing and working through their new show. “Everyone has had a loss in their families,” Toni reflected. “And for us, it was our first, and it’s been difficult to deal with.”
“But we’ve had so many people, so many fans, welcoming us, so that part helps us,” she said. “I don’t think people realize how much they’re helping us.” Talking about the new show, Toni Braxton said the shooting has started. However, no Premiere date has been announced yet.
Toni Braxton Appeared Alongside Her Son
The multitalented singer appeared at the event with her son, Denim Cole Braxton. The mother-son duo was all smiles as they posed on the red carpet. Toni also spoke about how her son wanted to meet Elton John.
“[I felt] it was important to be here, and my kid wanted to come, my 21-year-old,” Toni said. “He’s like, ‘Mom, I have to meet Mr. Elton John!’ I said, ‘Sir Elton John, son.'” She continued, “[Also], it’s fabulous to be out! I haven’t been out in a while, so it’s good to get dressed up and show off your outfit sometimes.”
She posted some of their pictures on her Instagram page with the caption, “My date to @eltonjohn’s Oscar party is so handsome! Don’t y’all agree? @denimbraxton”

Following the announcement, social media users shared their excitement about the Braxtons’ return to reality TV on X. A user posted a short video of Traci Braxton tweeting, “Oh, it will be difficult to watch the Braxtons without our beloved #tracibraxton.”
Another user wrote, “I’m looking forward to seeing The Braxton again. Traci’s presence will be truly missed. May the Lord continue to strengthen your family.”
On X, formerly Twitter, Evelyn Braxton penned a tribute to her demised daughter, Traci. “I was thinking of you and our favorite scripture, Psalm 23: ‘The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want,” she wrote. “You’re dwelling in his house, glowing in his presence.” She added, “Love and miss you! Thank you, Jesus. Look at God.”
“I can’t wait until the new season of The Braxton is out,” a third user said. Another user added, “I’m happy the Braxtons are coming back on, but I’m going to miss Traci so much, man. She was definitely my favorite!”
