Tish Cyrus, Miley Cyrus’ mother, slammed her ex-husband, Billy Ray Cyrus. She shut down Billy Ray’s claims that the hit show “Hannah Montana” “destroyed” their family. Miley, 31, and her father, Billy Ray, 62, starred in “Hannah Montana” for four seasons.
The father-daughter duo appeared on the Disney Channel teen sitcom from 2006 to 2011, becoming household names. The massive success of “Hannah Montana” propelled Miley to stardom. Also, it supercharged the career of Billy Ray, who was already an established country singer.
However, over the past few years, Billy Ray has lamented the impact he believes “Hannah Montana” had on their family. Tish, on the other hand, disagrees. While appearing on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, Tish and her oldest daughter Brandi Cyrus, 36, firmly disputed Billy Ray’s past comments.
“Absolutely not,” Tish said when asked if she agreed with Billy Ray’s claims that the show “destroyed” the Cyrus family. Similarly, Brandi disputed Billy Ray’s assertions. “Not at all,” she agreed. “I mean, the family’s not destroyed, first of all. We’re doing great.”
Furthermore, Tish claimed the famous singer was probably “having a moment.” Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus welcomed Miley in 1992, and the former couple married the following year. In addition, the two share a son, Braison, 29, and a daughter, Noah, 24.

Besides his children with Tish, Billy Ray is also the father of Christopher Cody Cyrus, whom he shares with Kristen Luckey. Similarly, Tish has other children outside her relationship with Billy Ray. She has two children, Brandi and Trace, from a previous relationship.
However, after the former couple tied the knot, Billy Ray adopted Brandi and Trace. The two weathered several ups and downs before going their separate ways after 30 years together in 2023.
Although Billy Ray filed for divorce in 2010, the two reconciled the following year. Also, in June 2013, Tish Cyrus filed for divorce, but the couple reunited a month later. During a 2011 interview with GQ, Billy Ray made several remarks about “Hannah Montana’s” effect on his family.
His remarks came shortly after the show concluded and amid his first split with Tish. When asked if he believed the Disney show played any part in his family’s troubles and his then-impending divorce, Billy Ray told the outlet it did. He said, “Oh, it’s huge; it destroyed my family.”
The outlet asked the singer if he wished “Hannah Montana” never happened. “I hate to say it, but yes, I do,” Billy Ray said. “Yeah. I’d take it back in a second. For my family to be here and just be everybody okay, safe, sound, happy, and normal would have been fantastic.”
He added, “Heck, yeah. I’d erase it all in a second if I could.” While appearing on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Tish Cyrus revealed that she was the one who nudged Billy Ray to audition for his role on “Hannah Montana.” “I’m trying to be politically correct,” she said.

Afterward, she said she believed Billy Ray’s career had stalled after the success of his 1992 song “Achy Breaky Heart.” “I mean, he had done ‘Achy Breaky’ and nothing else was working,” Tish said. “And then I brought Miley out to audition for ‘Hannah,’ and she had gotten it.”
“Then one of the casting directors said a joke, like, ‘Too bad we can’t afford her real dad!'” she added. “And I said, ‘Oh, maybe you can.'” Tish’s comments come amid rumors of a feud within the Cyrus family. The feud speculation began after Noah Cyrus didn’t attend Tish Cyrus’ wedding to Actor Dominic Purcell in August 2023.
Months later, Miley was absent as Billy Ray married Australian singer Firerose. The couple announced their engagement in November 2022. A month after Billy Ray’s engagement to Firerose, Miley and the singer unfollowed each other on Instagram.
However, Miley’s Grammy Awards speech last Sunday further fueled the rumors of a rift. The “Party in the U.S.A” hitmaker won her first-ever Grammy Award, taking home two awards. She won Best Solo Pop Performance and Record of the Year.
After winning the Grammy Award for Record of the Year for her hit song “Flowers,” Miley notably snubbed her father in her acceptance speech. She thanked her team, Columbia Records, her mother, Brandi, and her boyfriend, Max Morando. However, she left out her father, Noah, Trace, and Braison.
