Morgan Wallen’s arrest did not have anything to do with his ex-girlfriend’s surprise elopement, as reported. There is “zero accuracy” in the idea that Wallen allegedly threw a chair off the rooftop of a Nashville bar in reaction to KT Smith’s marriage to Luke Scornavacco, a source reported.
Smith and Scornavacco surprised fans with an elopement on April 3, 2024, just days after getting engaged. The couple announced their engagement on March 29, 2024, and shared a selfie showing off a Wilson County Clerk’s Office marriage certificate shortly after.
“Swipe for a surprise,” Smith captioned the Instagram post that featured photos of the happy couple and her son with Wallen, Indigo. However, Morgan Wallen’s arrest became public days later, prompting several speculations. Here’s all we know.
Morgan Wallen’s Arrest Could Land Him in Jail for Up to 6 Years
Wallen was arrested on Sunday, April 7, 2024, after allegedly throwing a chair off the sixth floor of the Eric Church-backed bar, Chief’s, in Nashville, Tennessee. The “Last Night” singer is “cooperating fully” with the investigation, a rep for the musician said.

“At 10:53 p.m. on Sunday evening, Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He is cooperating fully with authorities,” said Wallen’s attorney, Worrick Robinson.
Wallen was booked into jail around 12:36 a.m. local time. The “Whiskey Glasses” singer was released around 3:30 a.m. According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, his bond was set at $15,250.
The Police Department’s Report
“Country artist Morgan Wallen, 30-year-old, was booked early today on 3 acts of felony reckless endangerment. Also, 1 act of misdemeanor disorderly conduct for throwing a chair from the rooftop of Chief’s Bar Sun night.” The Metro Nashville Police Department wrote on X.
“The chair landed on Broadway, close to 2 MNPD officers. His bond, $15,250.” Wallen is expected to appear in court on May 3, 2024.
KT Smith Reveals Her Decision
Following Morgan Wallen’s arrest, Smith revealed she decided to take her new husband’s last name. “I’m going to change my last name to Scornavacco, which I’m super excited to do, and honored to carry his last name because his dad also passed, but his mom still has that.” Smith said, “So, I’m happy to be part of the family.”
Smith also said that she is not pregnant in response to comments on her Instagram post questioning whether she was expecting a child with Scornavacco because of how quickly they got married after their engagement.
“I know you can’t, like, tell this fast. It’s only been, like, a week, but I did check to see if I was pregnant,” she said. “The baby dust hasn’t worked yet. Or maybe it has. It’s just too soon to tell.” Notably, Smith and Wallen dated on and off from 2016 to 2019. The former lovebirds welcomed their son, Indigo, in 2020.
Morgan Wallen’s Charges
Following Morgan Wallen’s arrest, officials charged him with multiple counts of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. Wallen reportedly faces three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct. As earlier stated, Wallen allegedly threw a chair off the six-story roof of Eric Church’s Nashville bar, Chief’s.
Two Metro Nashville Police Department officers were reportedly standing below on Broadway Street when the chair landed just three feet from them, leading to the singer’s arrest.

Wallen has weathered controversy before, previously making headlines when he was arrested outside of Kid Rock’s Nashville bar, Big Honky Tonk, for public intoxication and disorderly conduct back in 2020. However, he was later cleared of all the charges.
The Defense Attorney’s Report
Nashville-based criminal defense attorney and legal expert David Raybin reported that Wallen could technically face up to six years in prison because of the three counts. His chances of being sentenced to the maximum and serving all those sentences consecutively are “very remote.”
Raybin says he “seriously doubt how he would get consecutive time,” who is not involved in Wallen’s case. “It’s based on the prior record and extreme dangerousness of the offense: professional, criminal, sex offense. It’s a pretty limited category.”
“Generally speaking, this would not be consecutive. Wallen’s is a serious offense. I don’t want to minimize it, but still, he probably would not be eligible for consecutive sentences. It’s probably a maximum of two years, assuming he was not put on probation.”
