Shawn Mendes still holds Camila Cabello close to his heart. Despite putting a halt to their relationship in 2021 and enduring a short-lived reconciliation in 2023, the “Treat You Better” crooner assures that not much has changed about how much they cherish each other.
The Canadian-born singer revealed this and more during a recent appearance on the Jay Shetty podcast. For fans curious, the former lovebirds still have a “private little fire of love for each other.”
Speaking on the September 30 episode of the podcast, the 26-year-old singer added that “no matter how strong mentally you are, when there are millions of people commenting on it, it’s so hard not to be affected by it…this is real love, and it’s confusing and hard. I’m just lucky. She is an amazing human being.”
Mendes thought his comments had sufficiently cleared the air until a few days later. After Pop Crave, a popular entertainment news media outlet posted the quote on their X (formerly Twitter) account, many fans had interesting perspectives and interpretations to give. One user replied, “They really did a good job not spilling any tea about their breakup.”
Another comment read, “Wait, so she’s really still with him?? No wonder she’s been throwing so much shade. I love messy pop tea omg.” Shawn Mendes was drawn to one comment that read, “They don’t play with each other.” He replied by saying, “No, we don’t.”

Mendes Had to Clarify His Comments
However, another reply seemed to have caught his attention the most. It was from a fan who was left confused by his statement. The user wrote, “I feel like you need to clarify what you meant with your last tweet just so the general public and Camila’s fandom don’t take your words and make them into something you might not have intended, does that make sense?”
After reading this, Mendes knew he had to clear the air again. “I guess, to be honest, it came from a place of being a little annoyed with all the projection over the last few months about us,” Mendes explained. “I’m usually pretty good at just watching all the ‘noise’ go by, but lately, it’s been kinda bugging me feeling human, I guess,” he added.
In a follow-up post, the multiple award-winning singer explained further: “Part of me knows quoting a tweet and saying that is gunna start a little spin up, and I guess, to be honest, part of me just wanted to address it and actually have a real honest relationship with you guys about how it feels from my side. I also would love to know how it feels for you.”
The singer, who has amassed over 30 million YouTube subscribers, admitted that sharing this kind of information to the world wasn’t an easy thing to do.
“It’s pretty intimidating to come online and be honest and vulnerable considering how quickly our words can be twisted and used against us, but tbh, I really just care about having a real relationship with you guys where I got you, and you got me and all the rest is just noise,” he stated.

As of 2024, Shawn Mendes hasn’t been in any known relationship. He has probably decided to take a break from dating after he and Camila Cabello failed to see their relationship to the end. Mendes has also disclosed the reason why he and the “Havana” singer couldn’t work it out.
He described the relationship they had as “brutal.” He further explained that they both discovered that it wasn’t in their destiny to be a couple. “Love is a lot, but partnership is more than love, and I think it has a lot to do with how you support each other in your day-to-day life and really being honest about who you are,” he stated.

“As long as we’re good, all the noise is just noise,” he added, stressing that they both don’t have any challenge speaking to the media about their time together. He said they trusted each other to be respectful with their public comments on the relationship.
