There are speculations that RFK Jr.’s alleged affair with New York magazine campaign reporter Olivia Nuzzi caused him to be absent from his niece Grace Kennedy Allen’s pre-wedding festivities.
Some are convinced something is happening between the pair, but Kennedy Jr.’s party denies it. A spokesperson for him recently said Kennedy and Nuzzi have only met once and only for professional purposes.
Did RFK Jr.’s Alleged Affair Keep Him Away From His Niece’s Wedding?
Speculations are leaning that way, but nothing is certain except that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was absent when the extended Kennedy family gathered in Hyannis Port on Saturday, September 21, before Grace’s wedding.
Pictures show the family spending time in Hyannis Harbor, but Kennedy Jr., aka Bobby, was nowhere to be found. Nobody knows if the 70-year-old, who lives in Malibu, will be present for the wedding of the late Senator Ted Kennedy’s granddaughter.

Another reason there is a lot of mention of RFK Jr.’s alleged affair with Nuzzi is that September 21, when he was AWOL, also marked the 59th birthday of his wife, Cheryl Hines. It did not help matters that she was pictured a day before without her wedding ring and Bobby.
Is News About RFK Jr.’s Alleged Affair Real?
At this point, all there is to go around are speculations and many denials. While nothing is concrete yet, there is evidence Nuzzi was having an affair. And according to some reports, it was with Robert F. Kennedy.
His absence at his niece’s wedding comes two days after Nuzzi was put on leave from New York magazine. The leave came in response to her telling the publication’s editors that she “engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign.”
As per New York’s statement released on Thursday, September 19, her actions violate the magazine’s standards about “conflicts of interest and disclosures.” According to the publication, Nuzzi would not have been allowed to cover the former presidential candidate on his campaign had it known of what was happening between them.
Nuzzi told PEOPLE, “Earlier this year, the nature of some communication between myself and a former reporting subject turned personal. During that time, I did not directly report on the subject nor use them as a source.”
While she did not name the subject, CNN has identified him as Bobby, lending more credibility to the possibility of Robert F. Kennedy’s alleged affair with Nuzzi.
RFK Jr.’s Alleged Affair Denied By All Involved
While Nuzzi has confirmed she did have an affair with someone, she has also said that the relationship was never physical. She expressed remorse and apologized to those she disappointed, especially her colleagues in New York.
Meanwhile, a Kennedy representative has refuted the mere idea that something happened between him and Nuzzi. In a statement shared with The Washington Post, the rep said that Kennedy and Nuzzi have only crossed paths once.
At the time, she had reportedly requested an interview, which he agreed to. According to the representative, the article from that single meeting — titled “The Mind-Bending Politics of RFK Jr.’s Spoiler Campaign” — was a hit.
What Happened to Robert Kennedy Jr.’s Second Wife??
Mary Richardson Kennedy was Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s second wife. The pair married in 1994 and had four children together. They separated in 2010 after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. filed for divorce. After the separation, Mary reportedly became unstable.
She had legal troubles; for example, she was once arrested for driving under the influence. She also struggled with mental issues. But according to her therapist, she was not mentally ill — just really angry and depressed.
It came as a shock to everyone when news of Mary’s death by suicide on May 16, 2012, at her home in Bedford, New York, became public.
How Many Children Does RFK Jr Have?
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a proud father of six children. He shares his first two kids, son Bobby and daughter Kick, with his former wife, Emily Ruth Black. His other four children, Conor, Kyra, Aidan, and Finn, are products of his relationship with the now-deceased Mary.
Why Did RFK Jr Drop Out of the Presidential Campaign?
Various factors contributed to the suspension of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s 2024 presidential campaign. One big one was public sentiment measured by polls. In the days before he dropped out, his polling numbers had fallen from double digits to under 5%.
That’s not all. His campaign also suffered from funding issues and dwindling national coverage, further hurting his chances.

Even worse, his ambition directly clashed with Donald Trump’s, a political figure he had supported, causing controversy amidst his family. They believe his public endorsement of Trump was a betrayal of all they stand for.
Meanwhile, his political allies strongly advised him against running, as they thought his participation would risk Trump’s desired victory.
