In recent years, Netflix has been in something of an existential crisis. However, the 2024 slate is promising. On February 1, 2024, Netflix released a teaser video for its biggest properties arriving in 2024, including over 50 new movies.
In addition, there will also be 90 new and returning movies. This highlights what a busy year it would be for the streaming site. The year already began with a bang with the recent Scott Stuber exit, a huge Sundance splash, and 18 Oscar nominations.
This is the most of any individual studio. Hence, there is a lot in store for all viewers. The trailer was released at the “Next on Netflix” presentation at the streaming service’s headquarters in Los Angeles.
The attendees were treated to unseen looks at several forthcoming films and TV projects. Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria was among the executives highlighting notable releases. At the event, Bajaria noted that the “Suits” effect drives so much engagement on the platform.
However, she said the willingness of studios to license more of their quality content isn’t making her “rethink” the mix of originals and acquired. “We have a licensing team that never went away, and we always continue to license the world,” she continued.

“So yes, there are some titles and some things that became open, but it’s really opportunistic.” She continued, “Will our audience love it? Is there that great flow? Does it fit with what we’re doing? So it’s a very fluid thing.”
Bajaria went on to call her originals “amazing.” She added that they “drive a lot of conversation” and are “a very important part of our business.” This statement follows Netflix’s decision to slow down the production of its original feature-length projects.
The platform decided to get back into the business of licensing popular movies created by other studios. But regarding acquired materials, Bajaria says consumers, talent, and studios all “really benefit from” content migrating to Netflix.
For talent, it’s a larger audience; for studios as well, “they make more money.” And for the end user reviewers, it’s all about “having a second shot at a show.” “We’re the only pure-play streamer. Our members love films and want to see films on Netflix,” Bajaria said.
“For us, that is going to be the most important thing.” Bajaria added, “A lot of other companies do theatrical, and it’s a great business for them; it’s just not our business. Our business is to make sure that members come to Netflix.” This means that Netflix has softened its stance on theatrical.

The highlight of the teaser is “Squid Game 2,” a follow-up season to the South Korean dystopian hit that became Netflix’s biggest show. In the teaser, Seong Gi-Hun (Lee Jung-Jae) is walking through an airport when a mysterious voice on his phone tells him, “You’re going to regret the choice you made.”
This year’s upcoming Season 2 of “Squid Game” does not have a confirmed release date yet.” However, fans are anticipating its release. The teaser also includes Season 3 of “Bridgerton,” the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai, and the fourth and final season of “Umbrella Academy.”
Furthermore, it includes “Outer Banks” (Season 4) and “Sweet Tooth” (Season 3). As well as “American Primeval,” “Black Doves and Eric,” and glimpses of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and “3 Body Problem.”
In addition, it features Eddie Murphy’s return as Axel Foley in the upcoming film “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” the fourth installment in the franchise. Also, Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry’s action movie “The Union,” Jerry Seinfeld’s comedy “Unfrosted: The Pop Tart Story,” the new season of “The Diplomat” and Tyler Perry’s war movie “Six Triple Eight,” amongst others.
Moreover, Netflix announced 16 titles for its 2024 Games slate. They include “Hades,” featuring the rogue-like dungeon crawler; the yet-to-be-titled “Squid Game,” set in the Squid Game universe; the untitled “Rebel Moon,” and many more.
