Mo’Nique, an Oscar-award-winning actress and comedian, got people talking with her recent appearance on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast. She held nothing back on the podcast as she spoke out against several actors, including Oprah Winfrey, Kevin Hart, and Tiffany Haddish.
She also argued that she had not received the same opportunities in Hollywood as she would have if she were white. During the three-hour conversation, Mo’Nique pointed out that if she were white, her career trajectory might have been different.
She cited examples like Melissa McCarthy in “Mike & Molly” and her sitcom, “The Parkers,” as evidence of this inequality. The comedian and actress also discussed her discrimination lawsuit against Netflix in 2022.
She claimed that they blackballed her for speaking out against pay disparities based on race and gender. “If I was a white woman, my name would be Melissa McCarthy. Same track record. A five-year sitcom in syndication. Same track record. The opportunities are not the same,” she said.
At some point during the conversation, Mo’Nique addressed her feud with Oprah Winfrey. Mo’Nique accused Winfrey of betraying her trust and exploiting her family for ratings. She narrated a situation in 2010 when Winfrey invited members of Mo’Nique’s estranged family on her talk show without her consent. “Family is sacred; we don’t cross the line with family,” She said.

The situation led to a public airing of personal grievances as she believed only her brother would be invited. “We never talked about my mother being there. I understand it. But you betrayed me, sister.” The actress shared.
Mo’Nique shared that she felt blindsided by Winfrey’s actions and criticized her for prioritizing sensationalism over respect for familial boundaries. Furthermore, she expressed disappointment in Winfrey’s handling of the situation.
Mo’Nique also talked about comedian Tiffany Haddish. She slammed Haddish for a comment she had made about her husband and manager, Sidney Hicks, in 2018. Haddish’s comment followed Mo’Nique’s call for a boycott of Netflix.
Haddish stated in an interview with GQ, “My business runs differently than her business. I don’t live her life. I don’t have that husband of hers.” Mo’Nique fired back at Haddish without mincing words, taking a shot at her struggles.
“When I saw that, I thought, Tiffany, if you had a husband like mine, you may not have two DUIs,” the actress said. “If you had a husband like mine, you may not be caught up in what looks like you could have been grooming a child.”

Another target of Mo’Nique’s criticism was Kevin Hart. She claimed that after she appeared on Hart’s podcast, he offered to collaborate with her on some projects, but he didn’t follow through. Mo’Nique said she learned that Hart’s manager was making it known that Hart didn’t want “anything to do with” her.
Hart blamed it on a “miscommunication;” however, she said she had never heard from him again in the two years since. Despite this, Mo’Nique acknowledged Hart for financial assistance to her family in a time of need when they were “up against the wall.”
Mo’Nique’s podcast appearance spotlighted the challenges and injustices she has faced in the entertainment industry. She didn’t hold back on addressing uncomfortable truths and holding stars accountable for their actions.
Her appearance follows Katt Williams’ on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast in January 2024, where he also called out several entertainers and stars.
