The spokesperson told journalists that Lenny Simmons had received a call from the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office revealing the cause of his brother’s death.
This disclosure has been much anticipated, given the spread of some disturbing speculations. Rumors on the internet have pointed to foul play in the demise of the fitness coach. But the statement has ruled out such a possibility. Here’s what the brother said.
What Was Richard Simmons’ Cause of Death?
In the family’s statement, which their spokesperson, Tom Estey, delivered, Richard Simmons died as a result of a heart-related condition. “This morning, Richard Simmons’ brother, Lenny Simmons, received a call from the LA Coroner’s office,” the statement began.
“The Coroner informed Lenny that Richard Simmon’s death was accidental due to complications from recent falls and heart disease as a contributing factor,” Estey continued. “The toxicology report was negative other than the medication Richard had been prescribed. The Family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time of great loss.”
Richard Simmons’ unfortunate demise happened on July 13, 2024. Earlier that day, his housekeeper, who had served him for many years, found his lifeless body in his home. This incident happened just a day after he celebrated his 76th birthday.
Although the Los Angeles Police Department had declared “no foul play” in his death, the silence from the coroner kept the rumor mills active. The coroner insisted on performing more comprehensive testing before releasing their verdict.
Reports have revealed that Richard Simmons felt dizzy and fell in his home on July 12. Subsequently, the television personality told the housekeeper he would seek medical attention the following day if he continued to feel the same way.
