Kate Beckinsale posted an emotional picture on her Instagram page on Monday, March 11, 2024, which left her fans wondering what could be wrong. She posted photos and a video celebrating her mother, Judy Lowes, wishing her a happy birthday and Mother’s Day.
She also shared a picture of herself sitting in a hospital bed, wearing a gown and a large black bow on her head. However, the stunning actress gave no reason for being hospitalized. Hence, her teary-eyed look in the picture sparked controversy on social media, with fans wondering what was wrong with her.
Her Caption to the Photos Shared on Instagram
Beckinsale posted nine pictures and a video of her mother pouring wine into a glass cup, depicting her as happy and celebrating. She also posted photos and a video of her mother wishing her a happy birthday and U.K. Mother’s Day.
“Happy birthday and U.K. Mother’s Day this last week to my incredible mother,” Beckinsale captioned the post. “Thank you to those that love us and support us when it’s s–t and try to make sure there are some bits that aren’t.”
“And for looking after our dogs when we can’t and lead us to remember happy things when we can’t,” she continued. “And turn up when we are sick and sit with us, send balloons, check in, and pull us out of wells with love.”

Is Kate Beckinsale Sick?
Although her caption to the post didn’t mention anything about her health, her teary-eyed picture says a lot. Hence, fans of the renowned actress are pondering what could be wrong with her.
However, before her recent Instagram posts, Beckinsale went public about a health scare in 2019. According to her then-Instagram post, she suffered a ruptured ovarian cyst. She shared two photos from her hospital bed. One of the pictures she shared showed her lying on her side on a hospital bed and covered by a sheet while surrounded by medical equipment.
The other showed her in pain with an oxygen tube in her nose. Her caption to the photos shared goes thus; “Turns out a ruptured ovarian cyst hurts, and morphine makes me cry. So thankful to everyone who looked after me.”
An ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac that can develop on the ovary. It’s pretty common and can sometimes go away without causing any symptoms. However, larger cysts or those that cause pain or other complications may require medical attention.
Her Response to an Individual Who Commented On Her Post Back in 2019
When Kate Beckinsale announced her health issue in 2019, she got harsh reactions, to which she responded, “But first, let me take a selfie.” She added, “It’s not a selfie; my mum took it. I would not have posted it if we had not noticed someone in a car taking a photo of me leaving the hospital in a wheelchair.”
“I have Instagram largely to have my honest narrative and not have to always be ambushed by stories that come out that are invented,” Beckinsale continued. “I’d prefer to say what happened than endure speculation, and so I chose to share.”
“I agree, it’s not a normal impulse,” she wrote, explaining why she shared the picture. “But it’s not normal to photograph people in vulnerable situations by people you don’t know either.” Furthermore, Kate Beckinsale expressed gratitude for the more positive notes she received.
“Thank you so much to everyone who has wished me well.” And lots of love to all the girls here who have been through similar or worse. Love to all x,” she added.

Her Spokesperson Did Not Give Precise Information on Her Condition
When asked for further comment on Beckinsale’s condition, a spokesperson for the actress did not give precise information. According to TheWrap, Beckinsale had been caring for her mother and late stepfather after flying them out from their home in the U.K. to stay with her in Los Angeles.
Lowe married Battersby 18 years after Beckinsale’s father, the star of the BBC sitcom “Porridge,” Richard Beckinsale, died. In the same Instagram reel on Monday, Kate Beckinsale posted pictures of her mother thanking her for her birthday cards, of her sipping Champagne, and some extra still extra stills of her dogs.
