If you’re a J. Cole fan, you’d know that he supports his artists regardless of what’s happening. His recent surprise appearance at BAS’s final U.S. tour stop left fans and Dreamville lovers in awe. This event marked Cole’s first stage performance since his apology to Kendrick Lamar at Dreamville Fest.
Notably, BAS, who signed with Cole’s label Dreamville Records in 2014, was prepping for an overseas tour after concluding the U.S. leg in New York City on April 9, 2024. During this show, Cole unexpectedly joined BAS onstage, catching the audience and BAS off guard.
As BAS invited a fan to perform Cole’s verse on their 2013 collaboration “Lit,” the crowd erupted excitedly when Cole made his impromptu appearance, hyping up the fan mid-verse. Cole wore pulled-back locs, a black tee, and long jean shorts to keep it casual yet captivating.

As stated, not even BAS knew Cole would show up like that. Cole rapped the rest of his “Lit” verse while the audience went wild. Then, he credited the fan for killing the verse! A report showed that Cole didn’t stop there. He stuck around to perform “H.Y.B.” from his latest album, “Might Delete Later.”

Notably, this surprise cameo comes after a reported rivalry with Kendrick Lamar. During Cole’s performance at Dreamville Fest, he seemed to backtrack on any tension, offering an apology. This move follows Kendrick’s apparent shots at Drake and Cole on “Like That” and Cole’s response with “7 Minute Drill,” making the reconciliation noticeable.
J.Cole Addresses Feud Speculations with Kendrick Lamar
In a video, J. Cole spoke about the pressure to engage in the perceived rivalry with Kendrick Lamar. Cole admitted to the world’s thirst for conflict, relating it to a desire for “blood.” However, he expressed his unwillingness to participate.
He said, “I ain’t gon lie to y’all. I moved in a way that I feel, spiritually, feels bad on me. I tried to like jab my n***a back, and I tried to keep it friendly, but at the end of the day, when I listen to it, and it comes out and I see the talk, that sh*t don’t sit right with my spirit.”
Cole acknowledged his efforts to downplay Lamar’s music and greatness. He described it as a misguided attempt to navigate the industry’s competitive world. Ultimately, Cole took the very public moment to walk back the beef-like vibes. Reconciling, Cole publicly addresses his feelings towards Larmar, acknowledging the rapper’s greatness.

Cole says he prays that God aligns him with his purpose and path and that Lamar doesn’t truly feel a way about his clapback. In Cole’s words, “it’s love.” He further noted when performing “Love Yourz,” “The past two days felt terrible. It let me know how good I been sleeping for the past 10 years.”
But, to be clear, there’s no word yet on whether Lamar is here for the unity and peace vibes or still seeking smoke.
What Did Lamar Say About Cole and Vice Versa?
In “7 Minute Drill,” Cole hinted at Lamar “falling off,” with scanty standout verses like every thirty months and albums he found lacking. However, despite his love for Lamar, Cole admitted feeling “hesitant” to engage in a potential feud. However, he still went on to slam his last few albums, calling one “boring” and another “tragic.”
While Cole added a couple of woods to the fire, Lamar built the pit and added more fuel. On the other hand, Kendrick Lamar escalated tensions by referencing the need for improvement in Cole and Drake’s collaboration, “First Person Shooter,” in his track “Like That.”
Although Drake has been quiet and hasn’t responded musically, his social media shots and tour remarks suggest simmering tensions! What’s it really going to be like? Well, let’s wait and find out!
