It is a tumultuous time in US politics as Democrats are panicking about their presumptive representative, Joe Biden. Meanwhile, Donald Trump and his campaign team are intensifying efforts to discredit him further.
The Democratic camp has been unable to adequately resist the attacks as it is in disarray. About a third of Democrats are calling for Biden to drop out of the race, while the rest support him. Gavin Newsom is one such person.
The California Governor has stated that he has no plans to run for president against Vice President Kamala Harris. He has also not been calling for Biden to step aside. Newsom has been unwavering in his support for Biden even as Democrats have focused on finding someone to replace the octogenarian.
Harris is currently one of the frontrunners among Democrats under consideration as Biden’s replacement. Newsom’s comments imply that if Harris is chosen and Biden steps aside, she will get no contest from him.

Newsom’s stance will help him avoid a political battle that could spell doom for the party and its donors. Newsom and Harris have Bay Area political roots and have become the state’s two most prominent elected officials.
Harris is presumed to lead the Democratic ticket if nominated because she is vice president and Biden’s 2020 running mate. Newsom reaffirmed where he stands during a news conference about California’s wildfire response at Sacramento McClellan Airport.
The press conference came after his return from a swing-state tour to campaign for Biden. In New Hampshire and Michigan, he attempted to revitalize support for the president after his poor performance in the debate against Trump in Atlanta last month.
The governor was present at the debate as a surrogate for Biden. However, despite what he witnessed, he continues supporting and defending Biden’s mental capacity, which he says he can vouch for based on their interactions.
On Wednesday, Newsom said he had not thoroughly read former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s comments about Biden on MSNBC that morning. Pelosi said it is ultimately the president’s decision to run or not to run.

However, she also revealed that she is one of those who “encouraged” him to decide because time is short. Newsom also said he had not read actor George Clooney’s opinion piece, which saw him calling for a Democrat to take Biden’s place.
Biden has expressed no interest in dropping out of the race. He has even challenged Democrats who think they stand a chance against him to come forward. Newsom supported his stance and emphasized that fact.
Reports claim that he once said Kamala Harris would naturally take his place if Biden steps aside, and according to those reports, he believes she could beat Trump. However, Newsom does not see Biden stepping down, nor do many others, including Trump.
