It is no longer news that reality TV star Josh Seiter is transgender. The “Bachelorette” star revealed his new identity back in May 2024. But now, he is making the news again after opening up about the hate he has had to cope with since then.
Surprisingly, he has stated that the opposition has come from the most unlikely quarters, the far left.

The 37-year-old Chicago native shocked his fans on May 20, 2024, after announcing a gender transition. He disclosed the news to his fans via Instagram.
“I have struggled with my gender identity and resulting feelings of guilt and shame for as long as I can remember,” he wrote. Following this revelation, Seiter changed his name to “J” a week later.
Backlash for Josh Seiter
Since the announcement, Seiter has faced lots of hateful comments from the public, he alleged. According to him, a large chunk of the bigotry has questioned the genuineness of his transition.
“I’ve had death threats, people telling me they’re going to hang me, they can’t wait to see me so they can kill me,” he told reporters. “These are all messages I have in my [social media inbox].”
Critics Have Questioned Josh Seiter’s Decision to Keep His Facial Hair
Another cause of controversy and backlash Seiter has faced is his facial hair. Critics have asked the Chicago-Kent College of Law grad why he has kept it after announcing his gender switch.
Reacting to the social media rage, Seiter has shrugged it off. He told journalists that he isn’t fazed by the verbal violence he has had to face.

Recently, Seiter went a step further by announcing his relationship with a fellow erotic dancer named David. He made the announcement just before Pride month, stating that they’ve both been seeing each other since November 2023.
He also declared that the relationship is a breath of fresh air. He expressed his excitement about being in a “healthy relationship” after “a lot of disastrous relationships with women.”

In a shocking revelation, Seiter has accused the far left and some members of the LGBTQ community of hateful comments. “Ironically, I’ve actually found that the far left and the LGBTQ community have been some of the most vitriolic and mean towards me throughout all of this,” he said.
He also expressed surprise at the realization given that the left has always prided themselves as champions of tolerance and acceptance, especially towards the LGBTQ.
Different Reactions From Family and Strangers
According to Josh Seiter, he got varying feelings from telling his family and friends than from telling strangers. “It was a relief to be honest with my family and friends,” he disclosed.
However, he didn’t feel the same way after opening up to strangers. “I didn’t want to live a lie,” he said. “But I found all of the relief in telling the loved ones. No relief in telling strangers.”
Josh Seiter Had Struggled With His Identity for Decades
Speaking to the press, Josh Seiter explained that he had realized his gender dysphoria as a child. He recalled that he had always felt different but couldn’t understand what was playing out.
“I used to wear my mom’s dresses when I was five or six years old. I put on her snap-on earrings, and I knew that I struggled with a lot of things,” he continued.

Family Expectations
According to Josh Seiter, he grew up under the weight of immense family expectations, one of which was finding a job. Josh Seiter started his work life as a firefighter.
Later on, he resigned to acquire a degree in criminal litigation at the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Chicago-Kent College of Law. As a result, he was too occupied to think about his gender identity.
Josh Seiter Had a Secret Occupation
After his graduation, Josh Seiter worked as an escort before clinching his first-ever reality TV opportunity in 2013. It was while in the middle of his first reality TV show experience with Escape Club that news broke of his work as an escort.
A popular gossip website, TMZ, broke the news. This revelation generated public dislike for him, including anger and disappointment from his family.
Contending Against a Conservative Christian Background
Josh Seiter was born in 1987 in Urbana, Illinois, and raised in the same place by his strict Christian family. Little wonder that news of his escort activities seriously dented his relationship with his family.
To date, his relationship with his eldest brother is still strained. However, he has maintained a good relationship with his mother and immediate elder brother.
Josh Seiter Isn’t Backing Down
Regardless of the fierce opposition on social media, Seiter has vowed to stay put. He told journalists that he isn’t planning on closing down his accounts.
“We live in a democracy in America where you have freedom of speech, and it’s okay to disagree with people,” he said. “Again, the only ones I see trying to shut down free and open discussions tend to be the so-called accepting, tolerant Left side.”
