Eva Mendes deliberately shifted her focus away from her acting career after starting a family with Ryan Gosling. She’s happy with her decision, as she has no issue with him bringing home the bacon.
In a recent interview, she talked about several aspects of her life. This included her work-life dynamic with her partner, whom she’s been with for several years. Mendes, who shares two daughters aged 9 and 7 with Gosling, says putting acting aside was a no-brainer.
She emphasized the value she places on being a hands-on parent and spending time with her children, saying it is just as much work. Despite stepping away from the spotlight, Mendes pursues other opportunities but does it from her comfort zone.
Mendes and Gosling’s “Non Verbal Agreement” After Starting a Family
Mendes elaborated on this topic, saying, “It was almost just like a non-verbal agreement. It was like, ‘Ok, he’s going to work, and I’m going to work, I’m just going to work here.'” Essentially, she’s okay with Gosling being the breadwinner in the family.

Thankfully, he’s undoubtedly fulfilling that role. Notably, Gosling’s schedule is packed with high-profile projects featuring major blockbusters like “Barbie,” not a bunch of action flicks. Mendes couldn’t help but praise Gosling, reflecting on their time together on set while shooting “The Place Beyond the Pines.” She says, “I have never experienced anything like that.”
She continued, “The way he works, his commitment to his craft, and how he wants to make everything as best as possible. And that means making his co-stars as best as they can be.” Mendes explains that she pretty much stopped working after that.
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling’s Relationship Despite Busy Schedules
Despite Gosling’s busy schedule in Hollywood, Mendes says he is actively involved in their family life. Whenever possible, he prioritizes spending time with their family. He usually opts to stay home in the serene setting of Santa Barbara.
Although the duo haven’t officially tied the knot, their relationship respects the age-old adage: “Happy wife, happy life.” Moreover, Mendes is undeniably pleased with their arrangement. Notably, it also ensures that their daughters always have a parent by their side.

In an Instagram post, Mendes credited Gosling for making her “La Dolce Evita” experience possible. While Mendes may not accompany Gosling to every red-carpet event, her support for him reflects on social media, especially evident during the awards season and following the release of “Barbie.”
Mendes used her platform to cheer him on, notably celebrating his memorable “I’m Just Ken” performance at the 96th Academy Awards. Her posts included “Siempre con mi hombre” during rehearsals and a celebratory post-performance message: “You took Ken all the way to the Oscars, RG. Now come home; we need to put the kids to bed.”
All these show her support for Gosling, both professionally and personally.
Mendes’s First Partnership With Gosling
During her recent appearance on “Today,” Mendes reflected on her first partnership with Gosling in 2011, praising his exceptional acting skills and work ethic. She commended his dedication to his craft, saying she had never seen anything like it.
“But, unfortunately, or fortunately, there is only one Ryan. So I pretty much stopped just acting after that,” she noted. In addition to her and the “La La Land” star’s careers, Mendes also revealed their home lives.
During the interview, she discussed her children’s bedtime routine, noting that one of her daughters told her, “‘Nighttime Mama’ is kind of different.” Mendes also described some of the challenges before her daughter’s nighttime routine, noting that it typically takes around two hours.
