Since Elle King’s performance on the Grand Ole Opry stage on January 19, 2024, the talented singer has faced criticism from fans. According to reports, King’s performance of a Dolly Parton song was a disaster. The talented singer reportedly forgot her lyrics and appeared drunk on stage.
Consequently, fans took to social media to criticize her performance. Following the controversy, renowned music icon Dolly Parton broke her silence about King’s performance. During a recent interview with Extra, the Country Music Hall of Fame inductee offered her thoughts on King’s performance.
“Elle is a really great artist. She’s a great girl,” Dolly Parton said. “She’s been going through a lot of hard things lately, and she just had a little too much to drink.” During the Grand Ole Opry’s tribute concert for the “9 to 5” singer’s 78th birthday in January, King appeared on stage.
While on stage, she declared that she was “f-king hammered” and forgot the lyrics to Parton’s song “Marry Me.” She said, “I don’t know the lyrics to these things. Don’t tell Dolly (Dolly Parton) because it’s her birthday.” Elle King’s set included a string of expletives, and a TikTok user in attendance claimed the Opry “shut the curtain on her.”

She spoke about King’s performance at the Grand Ole Opry, advocating for forgiveness from fans. “So let’s just forgive that and forget it and move on,” Dolly Paton said. “Cause she felt worse than anybody ever could.” Following King’s performance, the Grand Ole Opry also apologized via X.
The Opry responded to disgruntled attendees’ comments, apologizing for King’s language at the event. “We deeply regret and apologize for the language used during last night’s second Opry performance,” the tweet read. Despite the controversy and backlash from fans, King has not commented publicly on the incident.

Afterward, she released another album in 2018. In 2023, she dropped her debut country album “Come Get Your Wife,” which featured Dierks Bentley in “Worth a Shot.” In addition to her 2015 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Ex’s & Oh’s,” King has two No. 1 Country Airplay hit collaborations.
