Sandra Bullock’s partner of many years, Bryan Randall, is dead.
According to an announcement his family made the Monday after his tragic death, Randall died on Saturday, August 5, 2023, after a long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). While Bryan Randall is not a household name in the entertainment industry, his long-term relationship with Hollywood sweetheart Sandra Bullock propelled him to fame.

Did Bryan Randall Have ALS?
The shocking news of Bryan Randall’s demise hit the public on Monday. The news emanated from his family members, who released a statement on August 7. In the statement, they shared some insight into the cause of his death and the efforts people made to ensure he lived longer than he did.
The statement showed that Bryan Randall died of ALS. “It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS,” the statement read. “Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private, and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request.”
The statement mentioned those who played a role in trying to keep him alive. “We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours.”
The family used the opportunity to appeal for some privacy so they could mourn Randall and properly reflect on the sad event. Another person who would need lots of privacy is Sandra Bullock who’s been with Randall for many years and stood by him through his battle with ALS.

What Is ALS?
ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a disease that affects the nervous system. It specifically hinders the smooth operations of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. When this happens, the affected person finds it difficult to control their muscle. This situation continues to worsen as time goes by.
The cause of ALS is still unknown. However, there is strong evidence that genetics is responsible for 10% of sufferers. This is called hereditary ALS, which spreads from parents to offspring. In most cases, people with inherited ALS have a 50% chance of transferring the ailment to their children.
Another terrifying aspect of ALS is the breathing problems that it produces. Breathing requires the cooperation of certain muscles. Unfortunately, breathing challenges are the most common cause of death for people with ALS, and only a few live up to 10 years after diagnosis.
Who Is Bryan Randall?
Bryan Randall is a Portland, Oregon-born photographer who has made quite a name in his profession. He, however, started as a model before he made a living from off the camera. Randall met Bullock while he was photographing her first child, Louis, far back in 2015. It was the little boy’s birthday party.
Both were attracted to each other and got in touch afterward. A little later, Bullock and her partner began to go on dates. The love and bond between them continued to blossom until Randall’s death. Surprisingly, despite many years together, the lovebirds never tied the knot.
Bullock has spoken about their hesitance to walk down the aisle. “I am someone who went through the divorce process. I found the love of my life,” she stated. “We share two beautiful children — three children; he’s got his older daughter. It’s the best thing ever. I don’t want to say do it how I do it, but I don’t need a paper to be a devoted partner and a devoted mother.”
Bullock also revealed that Randall’s encouragement was key to her decision to adopt Laila, her second child. She disclosed that initially, he was happy but scared when he heard the idea.

Who Is Bryan Randall’s Daughter?
Bryan Randall’s daughter is Skylar Staten. Besides Staten, Randall also impressively played the role of a parent to Sandra Bullock’s two kids. The actor didn’t have doubts that he could. She disclosed that she knew that “he is the example — the example that I would want my children to have.”
Bullock also cared for Bryan Randall’s daughter, Skylar Staten, who is now 30. She is the child between Randall and her mother, Janine, who died suddenly on January 4, 2007. Randall and Janine weren’t the best of parents as they both battled with drug abuse that especially kept Randall away from Staten’s life.
Later, Randall got his life back together and made up for his years of absence from Staten’s life. The stability that came with having a father around apparently helped Staten a lot. After finishing high school, she attended college in Arizona before relocating back to Los Angeles.
Staten will have a hard time dealing with yet another tragic loss after her father’s demise. A family friend described Staten’s ordeal: “My heart goes out to Skylar. Her mom, who struggled for a long time, died tragically, and then her grandmother. And now her father, so she is now an orphan. Skylar has gone through so much in her young life.”
