Popular social media figure Hannah Neeleman is up in arms against a newspaper publication that has portrayed her in a negative light. The piece implied that Hannah Neeleman was forced to embrace the “trad wife” lifestyle.
The article garnered reactions from social media, with many dropping their takes on Neeleman’s chosen lifestyle. Consequently, the Instagram and TikTok influencer released a number of social media posts to clear the air.
Hannah Neeleman Disagrees With a Newspaper Publication
In an Instagram video post on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, Hannah Neeleman addressed the offensive piece.
Although she didn’t mention the name of the media house, many believe she referred to a recent interview the UK’s The Times published about her. The publication, which the paper made on July 20, came with the headline, “Meet the queen of the ‘trad wives’ (and her eight children).”
Who is Hannah Neeleman?
Hannah Neeleman is the brain behind the popular Instagram and TikTok account Ballerina Farm. Through the accounts, Neeleman enlightens her viewers about homemaking, farming, and raising her eight children.
The accounts have amassed over 17 million followers, 9.8 million of which are from Instagram. Interestingly, the accounts have become the first-choice family-influencing option for many homemakers. Neeleman has achieved all these from her base in the mountains of Northern Utah.
Who is a “Trad Wife?”
The “trad wife” or “traditional wife” concept describes women who adopt traditional roles of homemaking and motherhood. It deviates from the modern career woman lifestyle that depends on nannies, house help, and store-bought meals.
The traditional wife devotes more attention to homemaking and raising children. Generally, the concept finds its roots in faith-based backgrounds. For many people, Hannah Neeleman is a model “trad wife.”

Public Perception of Trad Wives
Society has mixed opinions on the “trad wife” concept. A section of society applauds it for its healthy focus on family and home building.
However, others see it as an oppressive system that prioritizes the husband’s welfare and desires above the wife’s. They believe that the concept relegates the wives to the background and robs them of dignity.
It Began With an Interview
Megan Agnew, a reporter for The Sunday Times, traveled to Hannah Neeleman’s family ranch home in Utah. The ranch produces the kits, homeware, and meat that Hannah Neeleman sells on the Ballerina Farm’s website.
Agnew wanted to see if Neeleman’s life matched what she showed on social media. Of course, she also had loads of questions for the mother of the house.
Agnew’s Views About Hannah Neeleman
According to Agnew, during the interview, she got some time alone with Hannah Neeleman. She accused Hannah Neeleman’s husband of always cutting into his wife’s answers. “Usually, I am doing battle with steely Hollywood publicists,” Agnew wrote.
“Today, I am up against an army of toddlers who all want their mum and a husband who thinks he knows better,” she added.
The Controversial Newspaper Article
In the newspaper article, Hannah Neeleman seemed to distance herself from the “trad wife” label. “I don’t necessarily identify with it because we are traditional in the sense that it’s a man and a woman, we have children, but I do feel like we’re paving a lot of paths that haven’t been paved before,” she said.
Despite this, the article labeled her a “leader of a new and controversial group of the internet: the ‘trad wives.’”

Did Hannah Neeleman Give Up Her Dancing Dreams for Marriage?
Perhaps the most controversial aspect of the publication was when Agnew asked Hannah Neeleman if this life was what she always wanted. The 34-year-old mother answered in the negative. “My goal was New York City. I left home at 17, and I was so excited to get there,” Neeleman answered.
“I just loved that energy…,” she added. This statement led many to conclude that Neeleman was a core “trad wife.” Then she continued, “I was going to be a ballerina. I was a good ballerina.”
Hannah Neeleman Sets the Records Straight
In her defense, Neeleman began by saying, “A couple of weeks ago, we had a reporter come into our home to learn more about our family and business.”
“We thought the interview went really well… [but] we were taken [aback], however, when we saw the printed article, which shocked us, and shocked the world by it being an attack on my family and my marriage,” she lamented.
Hannah Neeleman Defended Her Husband
Neeleman argued further with the article’s narrative that she was “oppressed, with my husband being the culprit.” She then stated, “This couldn’t be further from the truth.”
In another Instagram video, she described her relationship with her husband Daniel Neeleman. “Together, we have built a business from the start… we are co-parents, co-CEOs, co-diaper changers, kitchen cleaners, and decision-makers.”
Hannah Neeleman Husband
Neeleman also spoke about her husband and how they got married. Hannah Neeleman’s husband, Daniel Neeleman, is a Connecticut native, the son of an airline owner. Interestingly, just like his wife, Daniel was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
“He wasn’t an accident,” she said in a write-up on the family’s website, which she referred her viewers to go read. “We were ready. Motherhood was my dream.”
