Jenny McCarthy wasn’t on any hunt for love when fate intervened and introduced her to her husband, Donnie Wahlberg. Opening up on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” McCarthy revealed she had just come off of unhealthy relationships. This prompted her to hit the reset button on her love life.
She said, “I’m like, ‘I’m really going to let the universe know I am shutting this down. So, I stayed away from any blind dates or any dating, and I really focused on me because I’m like, ‘If I can upgrade me, then I’m going to upgrade the people I surround myself with and who I bring into my life.’ And I told God, I was like, ‘Listen, don’t bring me a half-baked guy.'”
She also admitted to a history of lowering her standards to accommodate her partners but vowed, saying, “It’s time for them to rise to meet me.”
How Did Jenny McCarthy Find Love When She Stopped Looking?

She said, “A lot of it had to do with self-love and loving myself and knowing I was good enough. Then the moment came, and Donnie was on a talk show I had. And I interviewed him and was like, ‘Oh wow, he’s funny.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, he’s smart. Oh, he’s hot. Oh, he’s got a good butt. I like him.'”
She continued, “The interview went from six minutes to an hour and a half. The audience and the producers were like, ‘Uh, we gotta go,’ and I’m like, ‘I’m in love.'” Despite finding her life partner in Wahlberg, Jenny McCarthy learned a valuable lesson: that while humans desire companionship, true love starts with oneself. She discovered that love isn’t confined to romantic relationships.
Moreover, that fulfillment can be found in self-love and the love she shared with her son, Evan, from her previous marriage with John Asher. In the interview, McCarthy admitted Wahlberg wasn’t initially the New Kids on the Block member she had her eye on.
Jenny McCarthy and Donnie Wahlberg’s Relationship Timeline
Growing up in a devout Catholic household, Jenny McCarthy was drawn to the safety of the “good boy” archetype and wary of anything that might lead her astray. Speaking about her upbringing to Kelly Clarkson, she confessed her initial hesitations about Donnie Wahlberg. She said he seemed like the real “bad boy.”

She continued, “He had the motorcycle. So, I kind of leaned more towards Jonathon. I was just like, I don’t want to go to hell any faster than I already am. I’m going to go for the good boy.” Despite her reservations, look what played out. McCarthy and Wahlberg, the Hollywood power couple, tied the knot in August 2014.
Notably, they will celebrate their milestone 10th wedding anniversary later this year. In an interview with Fox News Digital in January, Wahlberg spoke about their relationship and expressed pride in their journey as a successful couple.
However, he was quick to distance themselves from the label of a “Hollywood couple.” He emphasized that their love goes beyond the glitz and glam of the entertainment industry. Moreover, he noted that being called a Hollywood couple implies they won’t last more than a few years together.
“We’re a couple. Hollywood has nothing to do with our relationship, and, frankly, we have very little to do with Hollywood,” Wahlberg noted.
Jenny McCarthy’s Stepmum Role to Donnie Wahlberg’s Sons
Donnie Wahlberg shares two children with his ex-wife, Kimberly Fey. They first welcomed their son Xavier in 1993, followed by Elijah in 2001. Since he married Jenny McCarthy, Wahlberg has blended their families, and she has taken the role of stepmother to his boys with stride.
McCarthy has shared how wonderful of a father Wahlberg is, writing a heartfelt Father’s Day message on Instagram. She wrote, “You give our children someone to admire, respect, and inspire to be like. You are such an amazing father, on top of everything else! I’m so grateful to be sharing my life, our love, and parenthood with the most amazing man I’ve ever known.”
