Tiffany Haddish has been sober for more than two months. The actress-comedian revealed this on an episode of Amanda de Cadenet’s “The Conversation podcast.” “I haven’t drank any alcohol, smoked any weed or anything in, like, 72 days,” Haddish said.
After de Cadenet congratulated her, she noted that sobriety was easy for her. “It’s not hard. It’s not that hard for me, ’cause it wasn’t my main thing anyways,” she said. As to why she chose to stop drinking and smoking, Tiffany Haddish said it’s because she’s “being obedient to the law.”
“It was court-mandated,” she explained. “You know, two years I’ve been waiting for my hearing in Georgia, and what happened in LA triggered Georgia.” She continued, “They’re like, OK, we want you to do driving alcohol tests.’ And I’m like, Cool.”
“And so, I’m doing them, and there’s no problem,” Haddish explained. “Like, I’ve been passing every single one because I haven’t been participating. I wasn’t participating much in the first place because I was only smoking weed on my period. After all, it was so painful.”
Haddish’s Response to the Podcast
While talking about her experience with drinking and smoking, Tiffany Haddish said she’s learning. “I’m learning now, like, I had friends that used to drink and stuff when I was a teenager, and they used to do drugs and all that, but it wasn’t something I was into,” she recalled.

“I just thought it was that one person’s problem,” the actress continued. Although she hasn’t ruled out alcohol forever, Haddish said she’s “definitely not going to be drinking anytime soon.” “I’ve got a few reasons why I might have a drink,” she said. “I won an Oscar; I’m gonna have a shot of vodka for that.”
Haddish added, “If one of my family members dies, I’m going to have a shot of vodka for that.” However, “not a whole bunch, just a shot. If I get engaged to be married, I’m going to get shit-faced drunk one night just so he could see my full crazy,” she explained. “But that’ll be it.”
Tiffany Haddish Gave Her Reasons
Besides talking about her sobriety, the actress spoke about her DUI arrest. Haddish claimed in the podcast that she was “driving exhausted” at the time of her arrest. She said she would have fought the charges but was too stressed out.
“And now, with my journey, I’m learning that it’s an epidemic,” she said. “It’s a big deal, especially with people in their 30s.” For context, Haddish took a plea deal in her Beverly Hills case, accepting a conviction of reckless driving and having her 2 DUI charges dropped.
The “Girls Trip” actress noted in the podcast that she struggles more with eating healthy amounts of meat and candy. She says it hasn’t been hard because she’s never been a big user of substances anyway, so she’s cool with giving all that up.
She also adds she would’ve fought her most recent DUI charge if the stress wasn’t doing a number on her health, saying she was driving while tired.
When Was Haddish’s Second Arrest?
In November 2023, Haddish was arrested for the second time for driving under the influence after she fell asleep at the wheel of her car in Beverly Hills. She was previously arrested on a similar charge in Georgia in January 2022.
The DUI charges were later dismissed in November, but she pleaded no contest to a vehicle code violation. When de Cadenet asked what led her to stop consuming alcohol and marijuana, the “Haunted Mansion” star said, “It’s court-mandated.” She also noted that she only used marijuana to manage the pain caused by her endometriosis.

Tiffany Haddish Stated She Would Get Some Help
Following the second arrest, Haddish explained that she had a long day on Thanksgiving. This included events at The Laugh Factory and seeing Yächtley Crëw perform at the El Rey Theatre.
But she told the publication then that she was “going to get some help so I can learn balance and boundaries.” Through all the jokes, it seems Haddish has made a huge change to her life, even if it wasn’t 100% her idea to begin with.
