According to court documents acquired, Tristan Thompson is now the legal guardian of his younger brother, Amari. A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge granted this decision on February 26, 2024.
The grant followed Thompson’s request for guardianship in light of the sad passing of their mother, Andrea Thompson, in January 2023. The 17-year-old Amari, who battles epilepsy, is currently under the caring guardianship of his elder brother.
Since their mother’s passing, Tristan Thompson has been the teen’s de facto caretaker. This change was noted in Season Four of “The Kardashians,” where they revealed that Thompson and Amari live in Khloe Kaedashian’s former residence.
One episode, broadcast on October 5, 2023, and filmed in the previous winter, shed light on Tristan Thompson’s sole responsibility. That was caring for Amari, who needs special attention due to his unique needs. After Season Three, the Thompsons decided to move in with Khloe Kardashian.

During the episode that aired on October 5, 2023, Khloe Kardashian disclosed that Amari had the most severe form of epilepsy. Furthermore, she revealed that he experienced an episode that needed hospitalization. Moreover, Amari now requires ongoing physical therapy at home to aid his recovery from the incident.
Khloe Kardashian also mentioned that the seizures have led to frequent episodes that resulted in profound brain damage. Unfortunately, that has left Amari unable to walk, talk, or engage in typical activities. Despite turning 17 in July 2023, Amari still appeared to reside with Khloe Kardashian.
Notably, Khloe Kardashian celebrated Amari’s 17th birthday with a heartfelt Instagram post. She shared a carousel of photos, including Amari, her mom, Kris Jenner, daughter True Thompson, and niece Dream Kardashian.
In her caption, she stated, “Someone is 17 today!!!! Happy birthday sweet, sweet Amari!!! We are all so blessed to have been touched by an angel like you. You are truly one of God’s greatest treasures.” Tristan Thompson also expressed his love by sharing a photo on Instagram.

His caption read, “Happy birthday to my sweet baby brother Amari! I love you forever!” As for Khloe Kardashian and Thompson’s relationship, they faced a significant breakup in 2021. This happened after Khloe Kardashian discovered in March 2021 that Thompson had a child with another lady while they were together.
The news came to light when Maralee Nichols, the child’s mother, filed a paternity lawsuit against Thompson. In January 2022, Thompson publicly apologized to Kardashian. He was remorseful for the “heartache and humiliation” he caused.
However, despite sharing two children, daughter True, 5, and son Tatum, 1, Khloe Kardashian shared countlessly during the current season that they are not back together. The episode, aired on October 5, featured a conversation where they discussed co-parenting and their past as partners.
In their conversation, Tristan Thompson told Khloe Kardashian that he loves her and considers her his “best friend.” He regretted his past actions and rhetorically questioned why he made such mistakes. In another interview with the show’s producers, Khloe Kardashian noted that it is not that she doesn’t believe Thompson loves her.
However, back in their conversation, she told Tristan Thompson that she considers him family and will always be there for him, particularly during tough times.
