The 2024 NAACP Image Awards was a star-studded affair featuring the who’s who of Black entertainment dressed to the nines. The 55th Annual NAACP Image Awards occurred on Saturday, March 16, 2024. It marked another year honoring the achievements of people of color in many categories.
This included movies, television, music, literature, sports, and even a Vanguard Award for the trailblazing stylist June Ambrose. The nominations were announced on January 25, 2024, with the film “The Color Purple” and actor Colman Domingo leading the Motion Picture categories with 16 and 3 nominations, respectively.
Also, Ayo Edebiri led the nominations for television and streaming categories, with two for “Abbott Elementary” and “The Bear.” Victoria Monet and Usher led the nominations in the recording categories with six and five nominations, respectively.
Hosted by veteran actress Queen Latifah, who set the tone with a few show-stopping looks, the stars came all out. Here’s a look at some of the best-dressed celebrities who graced the March 16, 2024, event.

Taraji P. Henson
Renowned for acting range, Taraji P. Henson graced the event, looking as bright as the sun. The “Empire” star wore a strapless yellow dress by Del Core with water drops on a flower-esque bodice.
She accessorized with a diamond choker by Bulgari and sleek hair. Henson capped off the night by winning Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for portraying Shug Avery in “The Color Purple.”
Usher
Usher, who recently made history with his Super Bowl LVIII performance, hit the gold carpet in a dazzling all-black ensemble. The R&B star looked stunning in LaQuan Smith’s F/W 2024 collection. The music icon completed the ensemble with Chopard jewelry as he celebrated 30 years in the industry.
He also accepted the Entertainer of the Year award after a career-defining 12 months, including a sold-out residency in Las Vegas, the Super Bowl halftime show, and a new album.
Yara Shahidi
Renowned for her appearances in “Black-ish” and its spinoff, “Grown-ish,” Yara Shahidi also graced the NAACP Image Awards. The stunning actress wore a beautiful black Ferragamo dress with a shiny leather top and a long, flowy skirt.
Shahidi was the perfect definition of simple and classy with her minimalist look, which was giving everything it needed to give. The movie star paired the look with gold Cartier jewelry and a black clutch.
Kerry Washington
Famous for her role as Olivia Pope in “Scandal,” Kerry Washington lit up the NAACP Image Awards gold carpet. Washington stepped out in a chartreuse silk chiffon Vivienne Westwood Couture dress and Bulgari jewelry.
She won the outstanding news/information (series or special) category “20/20 – Kerry Washington: Thicker Than Water – A Conversation with Robin Roberts.”
Damson Idris
Damson Idris, who became widely acclaimed for his role in “Snowfall,” hit the gold carpet in a custom navy tuxedo by Tommy Hilfiger. The renowned star paired the tux with a diamond brooch on the satin lapel.
However, he had the best accessory of the night on his arm: his mother, Philippa Idris. The “Snowfall” star won Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of drug lord Franklin Saint in the series.
Keke Palmer
Keke Palmer shook up the NAACP Image Awards gold carpet in a menswear-inspired look that included a white tuxedo jacket, shirt, and bow tie by Tom Ford.
The renowned singer and actress wore wide-leg pants and paired them with heels by Dolce & Gabbana. She completed the winning ensemble with a red rose brooch and a black walking stick.
Idris Elba and Sabrina Elba
Idris Elba hit the carpet in a custom monochromatic suit by Gucci. The actor-DJ completed the look with black sunglasses and jet-black shoes. His wife, Sabrina Elba, also stepped out to support her husband in a vintage gown.
She wore a caramel vintage Versace F/W 2001 gown that perfectly complemented her skin tone to support her nominated husband. According to her stylist, Kim Russell, Sabrina sourced the vintage gown two years ago.

Quinta Brunson
Outstanding actress in a comedy series winner Quinta Brunson dazzled in this Naeem Khan dress. However, she admitted during her acceptance speech that her earrings went missing. “I lost both my earrings, so if anybody sees my earrings, could you just, little dangly things, cost a lot?” she said to laughs in the crowd.
At the 2024 NAACP Image Awards, “The Color Purple” became the most nominated motion picture in the ceremony’s history, scoring 13 nominations and winning 11. It broke the record previously held by “The Best Man” (1999), “Black Panther” (2018), and “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey” (2020), which were all tied for ten nominations.
