Recently, a funny incident happened at Sephora’s Prudential Center store in Boston, causing a heated controversy and condemnation. In a viral TikTok video that now has become the public’s focus, a group of teenage girls were being racially insensitive.
As reported by the New York Post, the video revealed the disturbing sight of at least two white teenage girls at the store. The girls were applying cosmetics conspicuously darker than their natural skin tones. Hence, many concluded their action was a disturbing attempt at blackface.
The incident went viral when Temi Ojora, a track and field athlete from the University of Southern California, posted it. Ojora was present during the occurrence and found the girls’ actions disturbing. Additionally, she expressed dismay over their adult companions’ inappropriate laughter and behavior during the makeup application.
One vigilant Sephora employee took it upon themselves to confront the group’s adult companion, addressing their funny actions. The employee noted the potential consequences, including the negative impact on future employment opportunities and school admissions. This is even without mentioning the offense it causes.

Surprisingly, despite the employee’s intervention, reports show that the chaperone dismissed the raised concerns. This is even more annoying as it adds more tension to the fraught situation. After the employee’s confrontation, Ojora revealed that the mother of one of the girls approached her.
To her greatest surprise, the teenager and her mom demanded the deletion of the footage. That’s wild if you ask me. In response to the funny incident, Sephora issued a statement denouncing the inappropriate behavior.
Sephora clearly stated that it does not accept such actions within its establishments. Moreover, it expressed deep disappointment over the events at its Boston location. A statement from Sephora says, “We are extremely disappointed by the behavior of these shoppers at our Prudential Center location. As such, they were asked to leave our premises.”
Sephora continued, “Under no circumstance is this type of behavior tolerated at Sephora.” The incident is part of a broader trend on social media platforms, particularly on TikTok. On TikTok, a subgroup of young individuals, dubbed “Sephora kids,” has gained notoriety for their disruptive conduct within beauty stores.

This trend poses concerns, as employees from various beauty retailers show frustration in dealing with teenage customers. Accusations are flying, with claims that these individuals intentionally create chaos within the stores. Moreover, they are disrespectful towards staff.
Responses to the original video were full of shock and outrage. Several social media users condemned the girls’ behavior, with some suggesting that they should never visit Sephora. One person commented, “White teens at Sephora in Boston doing blackface whole their mom says nothing. Welcome to America in 2024.”
Another person commended the Sephora employee who stepped in. They stated, “Sephora, you have an amazing employee who stepped in when a group of teenagers walked in and used your samples to do blackface. I hope this goes viral so this young woman gets a raise instead of fired for doing what’s right.”
