One of the attributes of a perfect home is security. Many regard it as the most important aspect. What’s the point of splashing cash on home fixtures and furniture if they are at a high risk of theft?

Little wonder, these days, buyers have become more concerned about home security. But there is a way out. Luckily, thanks to technological advancement, there are home security systems that can secure your investments in your home.

They will keep your mind at rest and give you the freedom to enjoy the fruit of your hard work. Read on to find out some of the most relevant safety features that shouldn’t be missing from your home.

What Should You Have for Home Security?

Security cameras and video doorbells are a must-have for your homes if you want to keep your prized possessions in your custody. Joe Maxwell shares the same belief. Maxwell has been a designated broker with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Pacific Commons for many years. He says they’ve become, more than ever before, a hot cake for homeowners.

A camera can elevate your home security by many steps. They are your extra eyes, both indoors and outdoors. “You can see who’s at your door and even talk to people,” Maxwell says. “They won’t know if you’re in the house or somewhere else when you use the device for two-way communication.”

An outdoor camera will help you keep tabs on package deliveries and pets. Just in case anyone has it in mind to make away with any of both, your security camera will deal a big blow to their plans. They can also let you know once a guest approaches your doorstep and help you catch that destructive raccoon that’s messing up your surroundings in search of food.

Then, there are the motion sensors. Although they could come with cameras, many times, they are stand-alone devices. They can fit in perfectly on your yard, doors, and windows. They will alert you whenever someone leaves your door open. They will also rat out anyone who unlocks them.

Attaching motion sensors to lighting outside your home will add a lot of points to your home’s security rating. This way, they can sense the presence of burglars as far away as 12 meters, and boom! The lights come on. This will make many criminals avoid your home like a plague.

What Is Required for a Home Security System?

What’s a home security system without a control panel? The control panel is the central connection and main hub of the system. It provides keypads that direct various security operations within and outside the building. As such, it is a point of communication between the homeowner and the home security companies.

For example, with a control panel, you can simply punch a few keypad arms to disarm the alarm system. Some control panels have buttons for sending distress signals in the event of a fire outbreak or during medical emergencies.

If you opt for the wireless security systems, which are currently the rave of the moment, you will need Wi-Fi connectivity. In addition, you’ll also need to get batteries available as well as cellular backup connections to both the mobile app and the monitoring station.

Also, there are smoke alarm systems. Burglars and thieves aren’t the only threat to your home and its valuables. A fire outbreak can do more damage to your property in seconds than any criminal intruder.

So, consider installing smoke alarm systems, especially in kitchens and bathrooms. They’ll alert you when smoke fills the room, giving you ample time to intervene and save valuable belongings.

How Can I Make My Own Home Security?

There are many convincing reasons why you might consider setting up your home security systems. First, it gives you the freedom to switch equipment from one security brand to another. Also, you get to avoid coughing out those monthly monitoring fees or paying a professional installer.

Many homeowners have gone the DIY route with tremendous success. You can do so too. First, buy cameras. The number depends on the level of security you desire and your budget. One good camera could cost about $90.

Your choice of camera should support voice control if you use Alexa or Google Assistant to run your smart devices. Quality also matters; get a 1080p camera that supports voice control, pan and tilt control, and motion tracking. Also, consider a floodlight camera for your outdoor security.

In addition, smart locks, water and leak detectors, and smart sensors should be procured. It is worth noting that the carbon monoxide sensor is interesting. Carbon monoxide, one of the deadliest and fatal gases, is notorious for escaping detection—but not from these detectors, which alert homeowners to any build-up of carbon monoxide in their homes.

What Sensors Are Used in Home Security?

Besides motion sensors, several other sensors could immensely boost your home security. They include door and window sensors, as previously mentioned, and glass break detectors. Glass break detectors sense vibrations from the glass when it breaks, making them the perfect answer for those daring burglars.

The sound of breaking glass can also set off the sensor and its accompanying alarm. There are also flood and leak sensors, infrared sensors, and heat and temperature sensors. With a good number of these home security equipment and following the useful tips we’ve provided, you can enjoy peace of mind and a more comfortable life.
