As the presidential election draws ever closer and President Trump secures his lead in the polls, one topic that has gradually taken a prominent place is the controversial Project 2025.
While Democrats are sounding the alarm about it, Republicans are saying it’s not a big deal. So, let’s uncover the mysteries behind Project 2025 and why it has become a trending national issue.
What is Project 2025?
In America, both the Democratic and Republican parties are surrounded by policy research groups. These groups formulate policy proposals that they hope their respective parties will adopt while in power.
The Heritage Foundation is one such think tank in the Republican Party. Project 2025 is its most recent policy proposal, which it has dangled before potential President Donald Trump’s eyes.
The Four Pillars
According to the Heritage Foundation’s website, Project 2025 rests on four pillars. First is the Mandate for Leadership, a policy book that “outlines a vision of conservative success at each federal agency during the next administration.”
Secondly, the online personal database or “Conservative LinkedIn.” This is a platform containing the profiles of leading talents in the party who intend to be considered to work for the administration.
Presidential Administration Academy
The third pillar is the Presidential Administration Academy, a training center for new administration appointees who intend to master the ropes of federal office work.
Lastly, the foundation crafted a Playbook that will “take the policy ideas expressed in Mandate for Leadership and transform them into an implementable plan for each agency to advocate for the incoming administration.”
What is Project 2025 Planning to Do?
The proposal contains many sweeping reforms in government management. One such reform is a change in personnel rules that would require government employees to be more loyal to the president.
Other radical proposals include the ban on pornography, dismantling the Department of Education, laying off thousands of civil servants, enlarging the powers of the president, and ending the sale of abortion pills.

Project 2025 and Climate Change
The proposal focused specifically on climate change and proposed several drastic measures. First, it proposes slashing federal funding for renewable energy research and development.
Secondly, it advised the president to halt all carbon-reduction plans. Instead, the document urges the government to channel resources towards boosting energy production and security and end the “war on oil and natural gas.”
Project 2025 and the LGBTQ Community
Also, the proposal has called for radical change in government policy concerning the LGBTQ community. It advocates the removal of a number of LGBTQ terms from laws and federal regulations. These terms include “sexual orientation”, “gender equality”, “abortion” and “reproductive rights.”
In addition, the document proposes eliminating the “woke” ideology from government programs, which refers to all diversity and inclusion initiatives.
A Weapon for the Democratic Party
Even though Project 2025 has been around since 2023, analysts believe that the Democratic Party is responsible for its recent popularity. They think that the party is drawing attention to the document in a bid to reduce Trump’s lead in the polls.
One of the Democrats’ plans is to link the policy document as much as possible to Donald Trump. This plan seems to have worked well, as many of the policy’s formulators are former Trump administration staff.
Who Are the Authors of the Project?
According to info from the Heritage Foundation, at least 500 persons drawn from more than 100 conservative organizations contributed to the document.
However, some of the leading participants are former Trump advisers. One of them is Paul Dans, who was chief of staff at the Office of Personnel Management during Trump’s presidency. Another is Russell Vought, a Trump administration official who wrote a whole chapter of the document.

The Criticism of Project 2025
The 900-page Project 2025 document has drawn heavy backlash from citizens. Much of this criticism grew from the Democratic Party’s efforts to highlight the most controversial aspects of the proposal.
Democrats have linked the proposal’s worrisome aspects to the recent Supreme Court verdict that granted Trump immunity for executive actions. They’ve tried to convince the American people that Project 2025 is a blueprint for Trump’s second term.
Trump Denied Any Links to the Document
Responding to the accusations from Democrats, Trump has distanced himself from the project. “I know nothing about Project 2025,” Trump disclosed in a post on his Truth Social account.
“I have no idea who is behind it. I disagree with some of the things they’re saying, and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal,” the post continued.
Who is Projected to Win the 2024 Election?
As several analysts have disclosed, the poll results are the reasons for the Democrats’ sudden interest in Project 2025. Polls have shown, even before Biden’s abysmal CNN debate performance, that Donald Trump is set to clinch the presidency.
As of July 2024, most polls show that Trump is ahead of the president by a slim 1-3 points. At this point, even the smallest of slips can turn the tables.
