Did you know that a reward is up for grabs for any information on the suspects involved in the robbery and murder of Samuel “JR” Harris? Harris, 44, was attacked while walking his dog “Tequilla” at night on Monday, February 5, 2024, in southwest Atlanta.
The event occurred around 8 p.m. near Mitchell Street SW and Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard SW, where the robbers attacked him and also stole his dog. The Atlanta Police Department announced the incident on Tuesday, February 6, urging the community to speak should they have any relevant information.
During the robbery, Harris lost his life. Atlanta police suspect that the assailants explicitly targeted him. The suspects also took off with Tequilla, Harris’s dog, whose whereabouts remain unknown. Harris’ family said in an interview with FOX 5 Atlanta on Wednesday, February 7, discussing their determination to identify his assailant and to reunite with his dog.
Mary Boykins, Harris’ mother, revealed how she received the sad news of her son’s death. She said a police officer knocked on her door the morning after the accident. “I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I think I’m still in shock a little bit like I’m going to wake up, and it’s a dream.”

To gather information, the family shared flyers near the crime scene. Moreover, they urged anyone with potential leads to come forward. Lea Harris, the victim’s wife of 15 years, shared with an outlet, “All I hear is that laugh; that laugh is definitely going to be missed. We really are here asking anybody who can tell us anything.”
Liz Robinson, Harris’ sister, added that the family desperately hopes to reunite with Tequilla. She stated, “It would be so grateful even if you just dropped her off in a cage in front of the police station.” She added, “We would be so grateful to have a piece of him still with us.”
Crime Stoppers Atlanta announced a $2,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest in Harris’ murder. Moreover, the family added another $5,000 reward on Wednesday, February 7. People with tips can contact the Atlanta police’s Homicide Unit at 404-546-4235.

A similar event also happened in Atlanta, where a 38-year-old woman lost her life, and four others sustained injuries. This occurred during a shooting at Northside Medical Midtown. Following the incident, they arrested the alleged gunman, 24-year-old Deion Patterson.
His arrest happened inside a gated condominium complex in Cobb County, just over 10 miles north of the incident. Residents informed CNN that the arrest was only possible due to the community’s lookout and a quick police response.
Christy Colwell, a resident, expressed worries when dogs within the complex were barking. Consequently, she stumbled on a potential hiding spot for the suspect, possibly in the pool area with a gazebo. Noticing this, she immediately alerted a police officer responding to a noise complaint.
